    HELP Kindle questions

My daughter has asked for a Kindle for christmas. Which would probaly be great because she is a very avid reader.
My problem is that our local library does not rent out material for kindles and there is no way I can afford to buy the downloads she will want. She can read a 400 page book in 1 day.
Is there any online sources for 'renting' Kindle books? You know, kind of like a Netflix but with books?
Plus if you have any comments or pros or cons of kindles I would really appreciate hearing it.
    TIA!!

I have one and I love it! I didn't think I would.. cuz I love the physical act of reading a book. but it is awesome!

There's a couple of websites that let you know when there's free books available for download.. or you can check Amazon for the free ones. I have bunches of books and games on mine and I only paid for 2!

I've had a kindle for three years now, read it DAILY! I don't know the kinds of books you're talking about but take some time and look at Amazon under kindle books to see the prices and all the free ones (they change and add daily to those).

They also started running specials periodically where you'll get an email and say "today this book is only $1.99" and it's usually in a genre that you have been known to buy, so that's great too.

All the classics are free downloads and so many others as well. But I use Swagbucks earnings to get gift cards for Amazon and that helps too. Plus I'm more prone to try a free book to see if I like it and have found that it's expanded my reading beyond the typical stuff I used to read. I was not one to read historical fiction before, am now And I don't think I've spent $100 out of my own pocket on books in three years through kindle downloads and I do read two-three books a week.

They're wonderful, they really are. Easy to take with you anywhere and download anywhere, no hooking into a network to do so. So many nice features and they've gotten so much less expensive!!!

I would absolutely suggest a good leather cover though - worth the money to keep the screen protected.

Thanks I will check some things out. She is really into the Ellen Hopkins books right now and they are running 8-14 bucks (Amazon). But while looking some others were suggested by other authors that were 1-2 bucks.
Thinking I might just have to get 2. I might need my own. LOL.
A cover is a great idea!!

I've been looking into getting an ereader also, and was worried about being able to get books because I didn't want to buy them either. When I saw people reading on one I always asked about them. I found out that some libraries will let you check out from them as long as you are a memeber. One lady I talked to said she belonged to a library in some other part of the state and that's how she does it. She had to pay a fee because she doesn't live in that city, but it was pretty cheep, like $10-15 a year. I'll be buying myself a Nook next month. I'm hoping there is some kind of sale and I can get it cheaper or get something free with it! Good luck!

I also have had a kindle for a couple years now, and I love it. I never pay for books. All of my family has one, so we give each other Amazon gift cards for b'day and christmas presents every year and then share the books we receive. :-) Also, Amazon has a program called bookrooster.com, which I get free books in exchange for writing reviews for the books. I typically get about 2 free books per week, and there is no obligation to read them if I don't want. However, I've yet to be disappointed. I've actually found several new favorite authors this way! Highly recommend. My main point - kindle is totally worth it. I pay WAY less for books now than I used to before my kindle. :-) Also, Amazon has many free books that they offer as well...you just have to know how to look for them. Oh, and there is also booklending.com, which offers a library-type service for kindles. (although I hardly use it because I get so many books with bookrooster).

Yes, my Kindle is totally worth it! I use the Pixel of Ink and Lendle sites as well. I have more than 300 books on my Kindle, and I've only paid for 2 or 3. I love the classics, so I have my favorites downloaded, and then I always check the free books every day and download what I think I'll read.

I also suggest a cover to protect the screen. I found a pattern online and made my own with cardboard and fabric. I love it. My screen is safe, and my cover is easily recognizable.

Cover: I have an Ipod Touch and on that screen I have the plastic film they mak r ipods and phones. Would that work on a Kindle also?
I have been checking out the sites that were listed in PP s and I am most def liking what I see. I also let my daughter look and she said that yes they had some frees on there she would like. SoI think this good work out to be a very good present for her. She says she wants the touch one. Prices seems reasonable.
I on the other hand am soooo gonna have to get that new Kindle Fire. I just let DH know. (he didn't have a clue what I meant lol)
So thanks for the help and tips. I am new to ereaders so any other tips you have woud be very helpful.

I would still get a case even with a screen protector. I put my Kindle in my purse so I can have it on the go, and I feel extra secure knowing it's in a case.
