Default Do you believe hair dye causes cancer?

There has been mixed articles that indicate that hair dye might contribute to cancer (along with everything else these days) but more and more people dye their hair and start doing so at a much younger age then they did 20 years ago. What is your belief on it?

I only dye my hair myself because I dont want to pay salon prices for that and I don't believe they wash the hair as good as I will. Once I dye my hair, I do use a ton of water to make sure I have rinsed it all out.... but here I am, having dyed my hair over a week ago (only wash my hair once to times per a week so I am only on my second washing since dying my hair and yet, I still smell the hair dye in my hair as I am drying it... does this mean I didn't get it all out? If there is a link to cancer, not getting it all out wouldn't be good, coupled with the infrequency that I wash my hair - it has more time to sit longer, what doesn't get rinsed out....

As I have colored my hair for YEARS and YEARS I hope not, that said, I think anything can cause cancer....just figure that likely as not that hair color does....just like drinking a vat of sacarin infested soda will....or any other thing that is to the extreme! No, don't think that hair color in the amount and such will not cause cancer.

As a past hairdresser who breathed in, had it on my hands, dealt with it and used it on my own hair, I would be a prime candidate but nope, nothing.

Look, even the chemicals found in your water are carcinogens, but the amount you would have to ingest (even at the standards the Feds approve in our water supply) would be an insane amount over 100 years before you might develop cancer from that.

I refuse to be paranoid about every little stupid study or report.

Shoot, even the claim that oatmeal would lower cholesterol was a sham, years later determined not to have any impact at all.

I don't buy into the "fear" they try to generate with flash in the pan studies anymore.

I don't think it causes cancer. I do think you have to rinse it out really, really well! I wash my hair every day. I also dye my hair. Even after rinsing it super well I will smell it that day. But after I shampoo it the following day I will not smell it.

When I do the rinsing, I keep some white paper towels or Kleenex near me. I will dab these on various parts of my head to check for dye. The kind I use will show up as purple on the white.

I have also found that by far the easiest to rinse it out is in the shower. I have tried to use the sprayer in the kitchen sink but I simply can't reach some parts of my head. I used to use the bathroom sink or the bathtub, pouring cups of water over my head. That takes forever!
