Who dumpster dives for things other than coupons?

I am going to start back dumpster diving this week if the weather is not hot or raining. I was looking for coupons and btfe but I might start looking for scrap metal as well as coupons. I heard you can get good money from it and I sure do need the money.

growing up we used to dumpster dive for aluminum cans, in fact we would do it all year and make enough money for our family vacations. However, just this week in the paper, saw that they passed a law that it is illegal to do in our town. You might want to make sure it is legal.

I don't DD for anything I can sell. But while I'm looking for inserts, I'll pull out trashy magazines...not that kind.

I dislike germs too much, to dumpster dive.

Although I have taken a piece of furniture off the curb that someone set out for heavy trash (knocked on the door and checked with the owner first to confirm that they really were getting rid of it) and I cleaned it really good before bringing it into the garage.

I would never dumpster dive for anything. Not only is it dangerous but it's illegal here.

I don't DD either, but on recycling day, as I am taking my daily walk, I will take the Coke caps from bottles. I don't dig, but if I see them sitting on top of the container, I'll take them. I think it's ok since it is on the curb and will only be picked up and sent to the city recycling center. Oh, and yes, I enter the codes on the Coke website and then re-recycle them! : )

Just a few days go I got a lil tykes fold up picnic table. Was sittting at curb with trash. I took it to carwash gave it a good spray down and then gave it to my goddaughter. She loved it!!
We live in a small town and twice a year we have "city wide cleanup' You are suppose to put your extra trash, furniture ,etc out to be picked up by trashman. For days and days ahead of pick up tons of people drive around in trucks with trailers getting stuff.

I don't have the guts to do it, nor the desire. But, a few years ago, before we got curbside recycling I had taken newspapers to the big box at the school - it just had sliding doors to open on the sides - and I saw a bunch of National Geographic magazines and yanked them out. The girls loved going over those.

I always keep an eye out for magazines while I did for coupons. I really only DD in a paper recycling bin so there's not much else to choose from lol
