Do you drive? I suffer from anxiety when I do!

I could not NOT have a license. I refuse to be dependent on someone to leave my house. I feel very comfortable driving my car and DH's truck anywhere and everywhere in any road condition. If I am not comfortable, I should not be driving. I'm not arrogant in thinking I'm the best driver ever, but I need to be confident in my abilities as a driver. I certainly don't want to be around drivers who doubt themselves on the road.

There is no public transportation here either, and we always lived 5-6 miles out of town, so the only option was to drive. Now I live 1 mile from town, but all there is in town is Rite Aid, Subway, and Dunkin Donuts. If I need a grocery store, it's at least 10 minutes driving away.

Its funny how people are so different when it comes to these kind of things...it really sounds like you dont need to be driving at all if you cant even look at the highway.

I guess when you see awful stuff, it stays in your mind forever. I will not drive at all. My friends/family who do help me are also SAHM so it all works out. It's not like I ask every single day for a ride, most times it is twice a month when I go on my big shopping sprees in the big city.

Its the other drivers that make me nervous. People are always in such a rush or texting (even though its now illegal here to text and drive) that they just don't pay attention

DH has a motorcycle and I like to go on it but people do not look out for motorcycles at all!!

If I didn't do something because of awful stuff, I wouldn't do anything. Yes, the world is a sad and tragic place. But I can't live my life worrying about "what if". I wouldn't be able to go to the grocery store since there were armed robberies there. I wouldn't be able to send my kids to school for fear of who might be bringing something into the building. I wouldn't be able to fly knowing that someone could hijack a plane. I wouldn't be able to eat processed foods since who knows what the manufacturer puts in that stuff.

DH had a motorcycle for a long time and has me trained on keeping an eye out for motorcyclists. I often give them the right of way because I'm bigger and more of a threat to them.

I have to drive and love it. I don't love interstates though but I never hardly ever have to go on them so it's ok. I would never be able to go anywhere if I didn't drive. Everyone I know drives themselves. I am glad though that you OP have others that don't mind:) I had to drive my son to work for a long time almost a year and it got old. I was so sick of it and glad he got his license. I told him he better because I gave him a deadline to get his license. I pray and God keeps me safe.
You can get hurt anywhere not just your car I have found out over the years. Every time my kids got hurt we were not in a car, always at home. My husband almost died in January and I had to drive and follow the ambulance, scary yes indeed but I am glad that I knew how to drive in his time of need. Otherwise I wouldn't have been able to get there until someone came and got me after they got home from work, a couple hours! I pray that you can overcome your anxiety about driving. I used to drive for a living and loved it. I had to drive in bad weather and didn't like that part but prayed and would do it again if I had the opportunity.

anxiety is a terrible feeling!!! I drive when I absolutely have to especially with gas costing $3.79. I don't have to commute to work so I don't have that headache. I don't miss the stop n wait, stop n wait and traffic backed up 2 miles.

I love to drive. I think there is nothing better in life than to hop in the car and just drive and see where the wind blows me.

But I am sorry you have such anxiety. We all have our fears and issues...so while I don't share your fear of driving I understand the anxiety on some level.
