I would call her first thing tomorrow and ask that she speak to you personally regarding any potential issues. Sending a note home about "special help" is a passive-aggressive way of saying "your kid needs too much attention, and I don't want to deal with it". Notes in the back pack are for open house, fundraisers, field trips, etc, not for "special help".

My oldest son had her 2004-2005 school year so I know what to expect from this teacher. I am just slightly irrked by how she worded her note to me.. Just to refresh my memory of how irritated she used to make me I pulled out my oldest report card and all his things I kept from first grade.. I knew would come in handy one day..
So After reading all of the folder notes and such it is gonna be a long year. And to her surprise my middle child is not a sensitive cry at the drop of a hat type of kid,
He will not bat his eyelashes at telling her at what a crotchity old hag he thinks she is! He is very straight forward, I have not discouraged this behavior to much (my bad I know but after my oldest struggling for years and bottling his feelings up and having major melt downs there is no reason to teach my kids to be a door mat of teachers or classmates. So any way I have talked to my ds 5 almost 6 yr old asking him what his teacher is talking about and he says he is just raising his hand for for help like the other kids. So I am trying to nicely figure out how to reply to that question.. What I am thinking of is.. Typically no he doesn't require special help. I am concerned what exactly you mean that he needs special help during the day?
