Ecstatic! They're wonderful.
Great! Nice people and a lot of help.
They're OK - no trouble really.
Meh. I can take them or leave them.
I don't like them - I wouldn't tolerate them for more than a few days.
I can't STAND them! One night is my limit.
They don't like us/me and don't want to visit.
They pretend I/we don't exist.
They are scum and I won't have them near my family.
I pretend they don't exist.
Just curious, since people have so many opinions on their spouse's family.
My inlaws will arrive next week for a six week visit - they come every 18 months or so.
Feel free to post comments if you like!

Well, it's week three of their six week stay, and they've just now really gotten on my nerves for the first time...I think that's pretty good.
Other than being the type of people that leave EVERYTHING out on the countertops (medicine, cups they are planning to reuse, books, etc...which drives me batty) it's not been bad at all. They've been cleaning, doing laundry, babysitting...but we DON'T see eye to eye on parenting AT ALL. Since they don't see their grandchildren very often, they tend to be very permissive and like to baby them. DH and I are very relaxed parents, but there are very distinct boundaries and rules and very distinct consequences for ignoring them...period.
Long story short, my 5 year old did something extremely inappropriate at dinner to get attention...he is the class clown type that always likes to be in the spotlight. It happened so quickly that only I caught it, and I took him out of the room for a severe scolding and he was sent to bed. He was screaming as if he'd been tarred and feathered and the ILs immediately began to coddle and fawn over him, saying he was just a little boy and not to be so hard on him. MIL said to DH in Russian, "Well, I didn't see him do anything".
Hmph. Well, sister, I don't care if you didn't see it...it happened, and I can GARRONTEE (LOL...remembering the Cajun Cook) you it isn't going to happen EVER again.
It isn't really a big deal, and I'm over it. Just wanted ya'll to know it isn't moonlight and roses all the time...it's just that God knew what he was doing when he gave me a MIL I couldn't fight with....we just shoot each other dirty looks and complain to our husbands loud enough for the other one to hear.![]()

Well, my FIL is no longer with us and MIL is in a nursing home so it couldn't happen. I did live with them for probably about 6 weeks when we were first married and it was fine. So if they were to visit for 6 weeks it would be fine, but... We have only ever lived in one place where we had a spare room. Of course none of our relatives visited us then.
When we move to Cape Cod, my niece and BIL came for one day. We did have a pull out bed in an old couch. The couch was in the dining room. That was a bit difficult. Niece slept with my daughter. She has a Queen sized bed.
But here? Tiny house. No extra beds except for in my room and that is the Queen sized one my daughter sleeps in. She has a tiny bedroom and there is a twin sized bed in there but she refuses to sleep in it.
Our couch does make out into a bed but after having been forced to sleep on it too many times (old couch, belonged to my parents), I would never EVER have anyone sleep on it. It has that bar across the middle and it kills the back. Plus there is not enough room in this tiny room to pull the bed out. So... Nobody is gonna be staying with us.
I had a slumber party for my daughter once and we went to a hotel. That is the big thing to do here. Nobody has to sleep on the floor, there is AC and a pool.
That would be wicked spooky considering they're both dead.![]()
I wouldn't mind at all. I am very close with my in-laws. We see each other at least 3 times a week. I actually see them more than I see my own parents.

I can't answer the poll because none of them fit - I do love my MIL, but a 6 week visit?
Would make me crazy.
