SMILE What food item is famous in the area where you live?

Hi, was not sure where to post this, but today's lunch inspired me.

We live in FL and went to a Chicago Bar/Restaurant that won the award for Best Chicago Beef Sandwich. I now know it's also called an Italian beef Sandwich.

I'm 100% Italian, well Sicilian actually, and I've never had one or even heard of it?!

It was to die for, with thinly sliced beef, au jus, salty bun, hot and sweep peppers.

I looked up the recipe, but it's more like something to make for a bunch of ppl, not one family of 2.

Anyway, got me to thinking, what other local dishes are we missing out here in Florida? I would think if someone opened a Cuban Sandwich shop in Iowa it may be popular too. Here they are a dime a dozen.

    What's famous in your area?

I'm originally from Chicago. MMMMMM Italian beef - dipped. I still get one any time I go home, and a hot dog :)

I'm in Milwaukee now, I don't know what dish we are known for - I know cheese and beer and brat stuffs lol. I still prefer my Italian beef though :)

Pierogi, halupki (aka: piggies-ground beef wrapped in cabbage, not hot dogs in crescent rolls!), halushki, and up the road a bit, Old Forge square cut pizza.

I guess here in WA we are not really famous for any dishes. But we are famous for apples, huckleberries, smoked salmon and coffee. Alas I don't know anyone who likes smoked salmon or fancy coffee.

What else? Potatoes! It says so right on our license plates, "Famous Potatoes." We don't grow a lot of corn, even though people often confuse us with Iowa and Ohio.
We actually grow more lentils and white wheat than virtually anywhere else in the country, although most people don't know that.
What seems to throw outsiders most when they move to the area, however, is our love affair with fry sauce -- to go on those famous potatoes. Seems nobody has ever heard of it before.
It started in Salt Lake City at a burger joint called Arctic Circle in the 1940s and quickly spread throughout the Pacific Northwest. It is so popular around here, the Salt Lake City Olympics actually devoted a commemorative pin to it. Customers kept demanding it, so you could actually find it locally at national chains like McDonald's and Burger King for awhile, but that ended quickly. Arctic Circle is still around and small restaurants still make it for their customers.
Curious to try it? Every restaurant has a "secret" recipe, but the ingredients include mayonnaise, ketchup and pickle juice -- i.e. Thousand Island dressing!

    BBQ!

I know you seek Jesus, who was crucified.
He is not here, for He is risen, as He said.
He IS Life, proven by the Resurrection.
Though we be dead, we shall live!
    -Matt. 28:5-6; John 11:25
