I think my printer is crapping out on me:(

I have had it for about 3 years I just purchased another black in that is $20 and the other 4 are more than half ful. So at this point I am googling trying to trouble shoot and it sounds like a printer head might have burned out. A week or so ago it lost power and my Dh was able to open it up and wiggle a couple of wires and it turned back on. I have had to do this my self too. I wasn't printing anything I was just scanning my rebate submissions. So I am pretty bummed right now. I did a deal on back packs for my boys at staples figuring the reward money could just go toward ink when I needed it. It is not looking like that will happen. I might just have to buy a whole new printer Might not be a bad thing the fact that 4 inks would cost close to $80. So I guess if I do have to buy a new one I will make sure it will save me lots in ink and have cartridges that I can get $$ credit for when they recycle them. My current model is cannon mx700 and most stores don't pay for the cartridges when you recycle them.

Any suggestions on a new printer or other ideas for me to try. I have deep cleaned my printer heads, and also took them out and wiped the pads off. I really don't want to take it to a repair place as it will probably cost more than buying a new one..
I am also looking for ideas on a good new one that doesn't make you go broke buying ink. I like the fax and scan features too. Thanks!

We only use ones that use toner not ink. Last a lot longer...and so do the cartridges! We have a cannon..got it at Sam's Club a couple years back. It prints wireless/fax/scans and copies.

Have owned three Canons and would buy another in a heartbeat. My current one is the MX860. The older one still works, but when I went in to buy several ink cartridges Staples had a great deal going a year ago that made sense to buy a new one with all the ink included instead, plus the addition of faxing and copying all in one. Also the wireless was a nice bonus.

I haven't done a lot of research on toner printers, but if I didn't print pictures I would seriously consider one.

Thanks! I don't print photos I do print wirelessly though and it is defenitly a nice feature. I just wish I knew what to do about the ink heads or printer heads because I really do like the printer. I just don't want to sink a ton of money into it to be repaired if I would be better of just buying a new one that might be better on ink. I change the cartiages about 2 times a year but seem to be prinintg much less. Not much happening at rite aid that is where I would print a lot of my coupons for. My son has a Hp in his room that needs ink I checked the prices and the black is $36 and color is $39 so I might get ink for his to get by until I can figure out if this is something the Dh and I can fix amoungs our self for a resonable amount of money. Seems like when it rains it pours. Everythinhg is taking it time falling apart.
