I don't have a problem with a reasonable fee as long as customers are alerted.
They know they have you though. You NEED that paperwork for FMLA, from that doctor's office...so you either pay or you don't get the paperwork you need.

My doctors' offices have always charged. They all have signs hanging by the receptionist's desk saying you will be charged for paperwork that needs filled out. One office I went to was a flat fee, another was by the page.

Sad, but true. SIL's doctor's office didn't charge for filling up FMLA papers in the past but starting this year, she was billed $25. They wouldn't release the paper unless she paid first, so she had no choice but pay

I guess there's nothing free anymore.

We pay when we drop paperwork off, and they fax the forms to DH's work when complete.

I guess its commonplace now. But that is all this woman does is fill out paperwork. So whether or not she filled it out or I did and requested papers from the office I would have been charged. So it is a no win situation there. Just wish I would have been told when I dropped the paperwork off so I wasnt caught off guard.

Our pediatrician charges $10.00 per page of anything that needs to be filled out. I had a form for summer camp that I had filled out and just needed the Dr.'s signature. I was still charged $10.00 for them to stamp a signature.

I have to pay up front $10 + depending on how many pages when I have FMLA paperwork filled out every 3 months for intermittent leave. They'll fax it or I can pick it up for free, but if I want a copy mailed to my house I have to provide a SASE.

I am in disbelief. I just dont understand why they would charge for this. For dh's first 3 back surgeries and I had to have the paperwork filled out the doctors office then didnt charge me nor did my doctor charge me for my paperwork to be filled out when I had my knee surgery just recently.

Is it something new and select doctors are only doing it?

The doctors office where I used to work charged for papers to be filled out. I don't know what the requirements are for FMLA paperwork, but do you know how long it takes to stand at the copy machine and copy a medical records chart? It takes a long time!!!!! The doctors office is looking to be reimbursed for the time they need to pay someone for the clerical duties.

When social security requested a copy or a chart, we couldn't charge them by law. I'm not sure about charges for all the other forms, but perhaps there are some that they can charge for and some they can't.......

I've never been billed for the doc's office filling out normal paperwork. I admit, I don't even know what this form you are speaking of is, but I never fill out anything and have never paid a fee. I don't think my doctor's office fills out paperwork for any insurance in our state, though. They do mine online with a few clicks, and they have told me before any Texas insurance, medicaid, or medicare is done that way.

    FMLA

stands for Family Medical Leave Act. He is using FMLA or Family Medical Leave to help secure his job while he has surgery. It's a lot of paperwork..extra paperwork.

Normal insurance work...would not be billed extra They have special codes via the computer that they are putting in (the clicks) and then they hire someone to do all the paperwork that your not seeing if necessary. This is part of your bill (the person they pay to deal with the insurance).

the FMLA paperwork the doctor has till fill that out. Same with the paper work for the kids to go to school and such. Since no patient is often being seen...the insurance refuses to pay for the paperwork to be filled out. Some doctors are just kind...and just don't charge for there time. Some do not.
