I had this issue with my dog when she was younger - not peeing on the carpet but eating it. I waited until she outgrew the entire phase and grew up some and learned that you don't eat carpet - and then I replaced it - because I didn't want her to ruin the new stuff so that would be my recommendation - wait until the dog is fully potty trained and has no more accidents inside - then replace the carpet.

We cleaned the area with a carpet cleaner and it actually made it smell worse! I pulled up the carpet in that area today, which was a patch originally anyway, and had to remove all of the padding. It had an ammonia stench! Trying to decide what to do with the carpet...if it is worth cleaning or just to start from scratch with new. I have had good luck in the past with an enzyme cleaner called natures miracle, but it is so darn expensive! $30 a gallon. At that cost, new carpeting would be same price or cheaper. Anyone gone through this experience before? Don't know what best option is for getting smell out of floorboards and whether to replace carpet or try to clean again.
