Default TEACHERS... I have a question for you!

I have heard that many teachers have to buy there own supplies. I really have no idea if that is true or not. I do know that the schools are struggling and so are the teachers. So, here is my question, what items are the teachers getting a lot of and what items do they usually need more of? I want to help but I also don't want to buy stuff that teachers usually get too much of. Oh, my kids are in elementary school. The teachers at my kid's school ask for 20.00, a box of tissue, and hand sanitizer. I just want to help a little more while the sale are going. Thanks for any help you are able to give.

Tissues are #1-unbelievable how many we go through each year :)
Dry eraser markers, glue sticks, hand sanitizer.
    Clorox/Lysol wipes are also good.

    M&M's are good too

My sister would spend about $2000- $3000 of her own money each year.

Honestly I would ask the specific teacher what she has to fork out for. Each school, class, situation may be different.

Ditto on the ask the teacher...I would wait until about a week after school starts so she can see what she has and what she needs.

Usually by that time I had a good grasp on inventory, and whose parent just wasn't going to send anything in.

I agree with this. Every teacher may be different, but in my HS classroom we go through a ton of tissues, clorox/lysol wipes, hand sanitizer, and school supplies (for those few students whose parents never provide them). I usually end up buying these, unless I get lucky and parents send them in. By time students get to HS, though, most parents don't think of this as a need.

I have worked in different classrooms for the last 4 years and I can tell you that Tissues is huge. The other big one is Dry Erase Markers and the Erasers.
