    Default Ants in my house!

Not completely HUTC but more like completely skeeved out!!

I've noticed a few of the annoying little ants here and there recently, but OMG....tonight it was like the was a rave and they were meeting in my house! I am still itchy thinking about it!!! I spent well over 2 hours vacuuming every nook and cranny in this house trying to make sure I got them all. I have no idea what is up with them??

I get them every.single.year in this old house & this year is no exception. I use this same exact Terro bait & it works wonderfully. It freaks you out though cause they call every ant hill in the city & tell them where the party is. A few days later...the city sends me a thank you card. The end.

Check for ACE 4th of July rebates. I got 2 free boxes last year. Don't waste the sales tax for any other kind though. Only Terro, imo.

Terro huh? I'm so going to get that! I kid you not, I'm still itchy. We picked up the couch, moved furniture, everything! And do you know that after all of that as soon as I sit down at my computer one lone ant (obviously missed the memo) was marching across my enter key??? Now I'm on the look out for them. I swear, if I turned into my Grandmother picking up every single crumb that hits the floor I'm going to commit myself!!

I had these at are military housing in NY. My mistake was putting our plastic lawn chairs out on the patio and then bringing them in to use in the kitchen without checking them first! Turns out they had little black ants on them. I got some ant traps and called the housing office (or whoever was in charge, might not have used the right term). They sprayed outside. Then I heard from neighbors that ants were a problem every year. I just put out the traps and called when I saw them.

Here we were ant free for several years. Then daughter had a slumber party at a hotel. We left our cat at home and went to the hotel. Came home to find ants all over the kitchen! Had I been home, I might have spotted the quicker.

I put down the old traps that were leftover from NY. Thankfully they were still good. But the ants kept coming in. Eventually I discovered that they were entering the house through the laundry room. Which means somehow they came in through the garage. I never figured that part out. But I did buy some spray, most likely Raid and sprayed it outside wherever I saw ants.

Then the next year (but earlier in the year), daughter went into the laundry room to get something. She spotted an ant and screamed! I looked around and found a few more. Thankfully not many. I had only one ant trap left. I put it there and bought some more. Put them down in the dining room and kitchen and sprayed outside.

This year has been particularly bad! They haven't gotten into the house, perhaps because every time I see them outside, I spray. But I have seen tons and so has daughter. We've seen big clusters of them about as big around as the top of a soda can. Just swarming. I've had to spray every few days. I did have a coupon for some new Raid that is made of Pyrethrin (sp?). It doesn't seem to work very well. I don't much like using chemicals but I don't want ants in my house so I use it. I just check every day and if I see even one ant, I spray.

I have to be really careful w/ the sprays b/c I have 2 cats which makes it really hard to spay inside window frames, baseboards, etc. As I'm sitting here right now, I'm looking around to see if I can spot any. I'm going to spray outside the house and hope that works as well as get that Terro stuff everyone is talking about.

I can handle one or two, but when I go to pick up some goldfish crumbs as a result of my little guy, and there are about 10 on it??? Yeah, not so much.

Want a cheap and natural solution?

Try using a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and water. Put it is a spray bottle and spray where you see ants. The ants hate vinegar and the smell will go away after a few minutes. Spray and wipe down countertops with the mixture daily to help keep them away.

If you know where they are entering your house from, pour a little straight vinegar outside of your house in that spot.

Also, if you know a spot where they have a line, you can contain them by placing a line of baby powder in their path. They won't cross it. Helps me to narrow down where they come in from sometimes. Once I found where they came in, put a powder semi-circle around it, then placed a bait in the circle. Then the ants came in and out, bringing the bait right back to the nest. 2 days and they were gone!
