Default Out of work for almost 2 months and going crazy!

I was a victim of downsizing. My department as closed and is now being centralized for the whole company. I was offered to either go on the phones (I worked in a call center but not on the phones) or find other employment. The call center I work at sells. I am not a saleswoman and there is no way I can meet the quotas that they have to meet. Yes, it would of bought me a month or two of employment but then I would of gotten fired for underperforming!

Right before I was let go I finished up my Associates in Accounting and I am now working on my Bachelors in Accounting. I have been applying for other positions since February when I found out I was being downsized. I have had two interviews since then. I have applied for everything to call centers, clerical, customer service, wal mart, and every accounting firm within 50 miles has my resume! Still nothing!!!

My husband is disabled so was nice spending this time at home but how many times can you clean the house? My house is hospital clean, my yard is immaculate, counters, drawers, and closets have all been organized, basement is cleaned out, and things given to charity.

I need a job!!! Grrrrr..... My severance is almost gone!! This is one bad thing about living in a smaller town. There is not much out there and too many people out of work.

    Uggh!! I feel your pain.

We live in a small town in Kansas and my DH now lives in Arkansas for work.

Will you get unemployment once your severance is gone?

Believe it or not....no. Their reasoning is that I did not have to leave so they determined I voluntarily quit!! I really do not want to work at a fast food restaurant but I may have to. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong working there but when your 40, do you really want to be pushing "heart attack in a box"?

I feel your pain!! When I moved in w/ my bf I left my job b/c it was a 90% commission job and gas prices were at the highest! No way would I be able to make an hour drive back and forth when my clients weren't even coming in b/c the recession had kicked in and they were tightening up their purses big time! I couldn't get unemployment b/c I left voluntarily, no matter the circumstances. I took a month off to just veg out and then started looking and sending resume's out. Nadda. And like you, I sent them to anything I could possibly find. 2 month later I found I was I pregnant w/ my son, and that put an end to all of it.

I was going insane being home all day! I swear that I was about to color code the pantry, that's how bad it was! Stay positive, something is bound to come along!!!

I agree - try to get something watching kids, even work at a camp for the summer - if you have kids, chances are they'll be able to go for free/very reduced rates.

I hope you are able to find something soon.

I know you need the income but you might also try volunteering. Sometimes that can turn into a job offer or valuable contacts or references. I have seen it happen.

Thanks for all of the encouragement and suggestions. I wish I could watch kids but I live out in the middle of nowhere so it is hard to get kids. My MIL and SIL are actually taking advantage of me being off (in a good way)! I have been able to watch my niece off and on and I've been helping my MIL with house stuff that is hard for her to do. I have started volunteering again. That is something that I have always loved to do but never had the time. I volunteer at the kids school and at the hospital rocking babies in the NICU. That place holds a special place in my heart for me. My DS spent 3 1/2 weeks there after he was born 7 1/2 weeks early.

My DH actually found out one of his friends he has known for a while is a CPA. She has volunteered to help me with my classes and to keep her ears open for someone with a position to fill for any entry level or internship work.

So I am keeping myself busy. I am now rearranging my living room and moving my stockpile down to the basement because it is starting to take over the kitchen and laundry room! That is a good problem to have!

You should. Most hospitals want you to go to training so you know how to hold them properly because some may have tubes or wires. I love it. It gets me my baby fix and it is so relaxing! I know I appreciated all of the volunteers who rocked my son. It is nice knowing that even though you cannot be with him every minute of the day that someone is there loving on him!
