Re: Can this day end already, need some advice!
Sorry to hear. I'd recommend having him go to a temp agency. It's the best way to get your foot in the door nowadays. Best to be proactive now.
Also, contact your local United Way. I don't know if you have 2-1-1 there, but we do. It's like the equivalent of calling 9-1-1 or 4-1-1, but it's for health & human services. They will help you find resources. You can google 2-1-1 and United way.

When my husband was "let go", he collected unemployment...why can't your husband get it? I would still apply and see what happens.

Re: Can this day end already, need some advice!
I am so sorry to hear about this. As others have said regardless of what his employer told him definitely apply for unemployment. Was he an independent contractor/ 1099 employee? If so that is the only reason I am aware of that he wouldn't qualify for some sort of unemployment benefit.
As for health insurance - if he was getting insurance benefits through his employer (which would most likely mean he wasn't a 1099 employee) than federal law requires the employer to offer COBRA insurance. granted COBRA is usually expensive but you do have 90 days to opt to take COBRA. The reason I say that is if you opt in for COBRA on day 89 the coverage is effective back to day one that it is available - you will owe the money for the full 90 days but you do have a 3 month leeway on taking it without needing to pay up front. I know from personal experience as I did this the last time I was unemployed. I basically waited until we had an issue that required a doctor/hospital and then opted in for COBRA because I wasn't employed yet. Definitely do the research but I wanted to point that out just in case and YMMV
Best of luck - hang in there

Re: Can this day end already, need some advice!
When you file for unemployment the company has to dispute the cause. If they don't dispute it..he gets unemployment. If they do dispute it, then the state has hearings, look into it..ect to determine if he qualifies.
In other words...have him go apply. It costs nothing and they can give him work info there regardless.
Each state is a bit different on what is allowed and what is not. Some states it doesn't matter why they are fired, they still get it. Some the determining factor is why (example..were they stealing from the company...yes then they don't get unemployment)..regardless if the company doesn't dispute the unemployment...your good to go.
That company of course doesn't want you to file for unemployment cause it will cost them $$. So go do it!

Yes, my friend had a "hearing" over the phone, after getting denied unemployment, and she won! There was her, the hr person from her work and a mediator on the phone. She is now getting paid.
Definitely file, can't hurt!
