Mini Accountants

That's kinda what we are, isn't it?

We research, analyze, organize, document and execute the best income for the least outgo.

I'm in school (well, this year has been a break, but hoping to continue next fall) studying to get my accounting degree. When talking about which high school classes my son will take and comparing it to what I took, he piped up and said, "Exactly what do accountants do and how much do they earn?" (he was trying to compare the job with the income... he wants to be a herpatologist - studying reptiles)

As I was starting my explanation, I peerd at my open coupon binder and notes and said... "Accountants do that, only for businesses."

Then I got to thinking... stockpiles are like mini inventory systems. (FIFO/first in first out - for those versed in it) and coupons are like the resources/assets.

So... if any of you ever finds yourself in need of a job, you just need to learn the new lingo and formulas and I'm sure you ALL would make excellent accountants! You already do.

Accounting covers such a broad spectrum not only financial but inventory control etc, so you're absolutely right

And many of us keep spreadsheets tracking our expense, coupon savings, store sale savings, percentage overall saved etc.

Those who keep household budgets also practice accounting on a personal level.

I understand your point, but my DH is an accountant and I can tell you I would NOT want his job. Having to know the minut details of all the legalities of state, national, and international tax forms would drive me crazy!

i think of use as more of little business people. we have our stock we rotate, organize and reorder (sales) if necessary. we are constantly looking for new product and a better deal for stock. we have our "books" )coupon binders) and our work area.

But for couponers it is the same thing, just a different subject. Maybe it's not international tax forms, but there are minute legalities to couponing. You need to be able to recognize when something is coupon fraud or not.

It's fine if you don't want to be an accountant because of the subject matter specific to what your dh does. But when it comes to it, the nature of couponing is the same as the nature of accounting.

I think that accounting is such a broad spectrum that even within the field the variences are vast (the headaches have a range), but the overall nature of it is the same. It takes the same abilities, but not necessarily the same desires.

Now... someone like my sister? She would never do either. She has no patience for it. She the antithesis.
