I hate the swiffer. I think an old-fashioned mop and bucket is the only thing that works good. I hate mopping but I want it clean and I think the other ways are just shortcuts to get a little of the dirt off the floor.
Every time I "mop" with my swiffer, the white pad turns out so filthy, it's gross how dirty it gets... (plus I am not a huge fan of the swiffer liquid cause it kinda leaves your floor sticky but it's easy and it's better then not mopping at all). Anyways, I wondered if I were to mop a second time with a clean pad, if the pad would turn out virtually white - so I tested this theory.... it was just as dirty as the first pad. Hmmm
It made me wonder - how many pads does it take for Swiffer to truly clean your floor? Anyone else ever test this theory?
It reminded me of that old timey commercial with the owl and the tootsie pops- how many licks does it take to get to the candy inside??
I still don't know how many pads does it take to truly get the floor clean?

Oh My gosh, I was soooo thinking of that commercial about the tootsie pop too!! We must be the same age!
I also gave up on those after try #2. I use the old fashioned mop that twists to wring itself out. I have all tile except the bedrooms, I'd go broke in pads!
I can't wait to hear the answers of ppl who tried multiple pads on the same floor.
Clean is all relative though, my sister in law was living with us for a while, so she cleaned and cooked for us. She used the ole bucket for mopping and had to change the water 4 times in order for it to be clean water she was mopping with, I saw it, grosss!
I have to say - that after using two pads... I took a hot wet rag and ran it over the floor... and all the stickynes is gone - it actually worked - an easy fix actually worked... that so rarely happens.... it made my day
And for some strange reason I want a tootsie pop too!![]()
I live in a small apartment with barely any tile. Just in the kitchen and baths. I have the swiffer sweeper wet cloths and it takes two for my small kitchen. But to be honest i hadn't mopped in probably a week and half cause i've been really sick with crohns flare. I had gotten a good deal on the cloths but i usually use the mop and bucket. I had the swiffer mop with the pads when i was living in a family house that was on the market that had to be shown all the time. But those are so pricey. Then they came out with the sweeper mops that have the washable pads. About right.![]()
I use the more old fashioned mop in our kitchen now...but I like to use the clorox mop (similar to the swiffer) in our bathrooms..cause it grosses me out to use the kitchen mop where the icky bathroom germs are...

We have super hot water in the kitchen but I swiffer mop weeksly so I actally sweep before using the swiffer, Then I hook a fresh pad on and super speed hit the floore untill it gets a little dried out then in the kitchen sink I use my spayer nozzle and hold the swiffer and spray all the yukkies down the drain, then I hit te floor again! If it needs it again I rinse and repeat. I do mop and water mom about every other week though and I keep clorox wipes in the boys bathroom under the sink, Like CW&M said the bathroom germies eww and I have 3 boys that well you know... I am not sure it there is more on the seat or the floor in the morning. ....lol! I am so glad I have my own bathroom :)

Ooh, thanks for reminding me that I need to sweep and mop my kitchen!
If I have them, I use 2 or 3 swiffer pads (I have a big kitchen) and then follow up with a hand knit cotton pad wet with just water.
If I don't have any swiffer pads on hand, I just use the cotton pads with a little pine-sol, and then follow with plain water on a fresh pad.
I am neurotic with how clean my floors have to come when mopping.
I have dogs and they stay in our kitchen when we aren't home. And the back door is off the kitchen. So our kitchen floor gets pretty dirty and I also use buckets of water until the water stays basically clear. Just can't stand the thought of all the crap they bring in from outside and all the doggy slobber that must be all over the floor. YUK!
As for the pads...I stopped using them because it just took way too many to actually get it clean. Probably about 5 till they have barely any dirt coming off on them. Waste of money for me.
#1 due Sept. 5th
I have two rooms of hardwood and it takes me at least two if I do it everyday...but I use one side then turn them over and use the other....I also use the dry ones before I do the wet ones but I use a regluar broom before that..The dry clothes get just as dirty and the wet ones do and I find that by useing the dry ones first the wet ones dont seem as dirty as if I jsut used the broom..
The hardwood I have dont work to good with the regular mop, it leaves way to much water on the floor, no matter how dry I it seems.
And yes the more wet pads I use the less they get dirty...I have 4 kids and two or three that ant mine(in and out with my teens) so I dont keep doing it until there is no dirt left on the pads, for its would be a waste of time..I know that after all that I do they are pretty clean and the time I use the pads they still have little dirty on them but not that much at all..
