Default Since when did it cost $25 or $30 to get your yard mowed?

It was not that long ago that I paid $15 dollars to have my yard mowed and weed eated and now this summer, even the high school kids are wanting $25 or $30.... What's up with that? I can see $20 cause the cost of gas has gone up and lawn mowers take gas - but for a small yard, I think $20 is plenty.... unfortunately, I may be taking scissors to my yard since $20 doesn't seem to be a going rate. How much do you pay?

I have a lovely future son in law that will do it for me, plus dog poo pick up for $30 for both front and back yard. Going rate for a lawn service is $40-$50 here.

Actually, I thought I was getting a great deal for $23 plus a $3 surcharge when gas is up to $3.00/gal since most charge $30+ around here. The same service charged $22 last year. It seems reasonable to me.

We have to cut ours ourselves. The rate around here is around $100 for my yard! I don't think so, never. There used to be a man that would knock and say he would do it for $30 but we never had the money. Haven't seen him in a couple years now. The last one wanted $100, there is no gold in my yard, LOL

My yard isn't huge either and they want 20 bucks to mow it, no weed whacking. Thankfully DBF moved here from Nebraska last year so I don't have to pay out anymore :D I have two decent sized hills I have to cut and only being 4ft 11 I felt like I was pushing the lawnmower with my arms over my head most of the time so it was worth it to me.

My 12 year old son wants to start mowing lawns this summer. He is planning on charging $20.00. He is just going to do the houses on our street and a few streets over. He did snow shoveling this past winter and everyone gave him $20.00 for that.

We have an acre and half and two teenage boys and we pay them $20.00 to mow it.

Saves us money and they are happy to have the extra cash.

I don't know the rate around here. Most people do their own. DH thinks of it as an hr or 2 of quiet alone time lol.

We have a small yard, and the going rate is about $25 for the kids in the neighborhood. Mostly we just pay someone to do it as DH is usually too busy to do it and I just refuse. We haven't ever done any real landscaping (as far as design), I'm afraid to find out how much it would cost to have it done.

Well my brother has his own lawn company and he charges 40+! HE has his phone ringing of the hook for business.. he has has been doing it for 15 yr now. Well I have half acre and hubby was out of town so i had 2 mexican cut it. For 40 bucks! It was a nightmare there was huge parts that didn't get cut. It took my hubby 2 more times of cutting 2 get it back in shape. It look like a bad chop job!
