    I don't think you have to use iTunes to get music on it. I bought an iPod Shuffle for my brother, and we just downloaded music I already had on my computer onto the iPod. You can also use LimeWire to download music, or internet radio.

    I would turn it into the police station. It was not mine and it belongs to someone and that someone is not me. I would hope that if I lost my iPod that someone would do all the things you did AND turn it into the police station. The person that lost it may not know exactly where they lost it so they would turn to calling the police station, checking the lost and found ads in the paper etc. Also my daughter once took my iPod to school without permission and she lost it (can you say grounded big time?) and she had no clue where she lost it. We tried retracing her steps (bus stop to the house, bus stop to the school) but it was gone. Luckily an honest someone found it and turned it into the police station, but the honest someone that found it, found it far from where my daughter had lost it (like a mile away), so someone found it, and then tossed/dumped it and someone else found it.

    I just don't buy that whole finders keepers stuff.

    I think this comes down to what would you want someone to do if you lost your iPod/Phone/Wallet/etc….

    I know mine isn't the popular answer, and I get where you are coming from. I just know my community...and it's different than most. It gives a different perspective... so where you are coming from is not where I am coming from..

    I'm not thinking "finders keepers". It just would honestly be a waste of time and effort.

    I don't think that makes me dishonest...It just makes me logically minded. I don't think honesty is measured by futile efforts. If anything it just makes me selfish with my time. It's not like I would be looking at it from a point of view that "yay I found something" (and with it being old, I'd actually probably give it away, I already got an old one lol). And on the off chance someone put a lost sign up...and somehow I miraculously saw it...I would return it.

    I would also do different things depending on what was lost.

    A wallet...easy return...address is right there, or the police station could track them down by name probably.

    If it were something worth more...probably then I would also take it to a police station...cause I would think people would be more inclined around here to look for something worth more. But even the fancy new touch Ipods' value are only about 10% of most people's rent around here...so I just couldn't see anyone really looking for one that was worth even less. I wouldn't...I'd call it a loss. In fact, I thought I lost my GPS last week walking somewhere in the city...never once crossed my mind that I would find it or get it back.

    Interesting responses.
    I voted first yesterday, to take to the police station.
    This was my initial reaction after our self attempt failed,although, most of my non- web peers agree with the poll majority.

    I think Jen said it best;

    I have lost my wallet and my phone,and they were returned by good citizens who acted on thier own.

    I am, however, the owner of two finders- keepers cats.
    And I WILL keep the shiny quarter I found by the i-pod.

    Thanks for voting!!
