What do you plan to do once your kids leave the nest??

I know I have a while until mine are out of the house but they are growing up so quickly. Its been on my mind alot lately...what am I going to do once they are in college and out on their own???

I have always stayed home with them and love it but that was not my plan before I had kids. I wanted to be a nurse. I had my son at 18 so that did not happen. I am now currently in my last year of school and will graduate soon. Although I do not plan on going to work FT yet...I want to wait until my kids are out of the house or at least in high school. I worry though that it will be too late since I have never had a FT job and there will be a huge lapse from the time I finish school until the time I go to work FT.

I know that I will have to do SOMETHING. I know I cannot sit home all day and clean the house and cook when the kids are gone.

Curious as to what others have planned??

i have thought about it, my dh & i discussed it as my kids are almost there (1 in college now still lives at home though, 1 graduating HS this june, & 1 graduating HS next june) anyway i have recently found my niche and am making a business from it so i will definitely put more time and effort into what i love doing designing crafts and selling them
i too was a sahm and had my son at 19

You get to that point MUCH quicker than you ever imagined!

Mine are 22, 19 and 17 (in a couple days). The 19 year old is away at school and it about did me in to have her leave - was depressed for months, even before she left.

Be wiser than I was and cultivate many interests outside of your kids and home.

I am 41 and my kids are 15,16 and twins that are 4 so by the time my nest is empty I will do LOL I dont know what..have grandkids I guess

Thats a great idea!! I love to scrapbook so I will definately be doing more of that when the kids are gone.

Exactly!! I was talking to DH last night and I was like what the heck am I going to do?? I love to travel and I love to scrapbook but I still need something else to occupy my time. I will only be 38 when my youngest will be off to school. DH will still be busy working. Everyone always tells me how great it will be for me to be so young and have kids out of the house. I don't feel that way lol.

I giggled when I read your post. I have an 18 yr old in her senior yr. I also have an 8 & 5yr old. I figure by time they r graduated, my oldest will be providing me w/grandchildren! LOL

Seriously, I NEED to get more outside interests for when the kids r older....

Mine are only 6 and 8, so I've got a ways to go but I think I'll just sit and enjoy the peace, cuz I sure as heck don't get any now. lol

A couple of weeks ago, out of the blue, ds#1 said to me 'When I go to college, you should turn my bedroom into a couponing room!'
