Question about Douglas J Aveda Institute Groupon

I got the $50 Groupon a week or so ago to the Douglas J Aveda Institute. I'm going for a cut and color on Wednesday. (My hair is a hot mess )

I've never been to this type of place before, so I'm wondering if tipping is the same as elsewhere? All services are performed by senior students who are under the supervision of licensed instructors. Is there anything special I need to know?

Kval, I go to an Aveda place too. I go to the salon though since I am not available during the regular school hours. Yes, the students are supervised by licensed instructors, and if it is anything like the salon I go to, you are going to be VERY happy. As for tipping, it should be the same, and if it is run the same way as the Aveda place I go to, there should be little envies at the front counter that you can leave your tip in, you will write your stylists name on the front. You can always ask the person at the front desk, they are so incredibly friendly and helpful.

Thanks for the info. I am so looking forward to it. I called today and have an appt on Wednesday. With how many Groupons were sold, like 2,000+, I thought for sure I'd have an appointment months away, not two days away!!

Now, on that note, what is standard tipping? I normally just get my hair cut at Fantastic Sams or Great Clips. And the last time I got my hair colored, I think I was in high school. And I certainly did not pay for it myself...

I hate tipping. I wish everyone would just add it in to the price and call it good.

ya know, she did such a wonderful job and treated me so nicely that I tipped 20% - I think that anywhere between 15-20% is acceptable for services like this. Sure wish they would do a groupon for my salon, I need to get in there BAD!!! LOL!!!

So I went today. The girl at the desk told me there is a no tipping policy. So guess that answered that question! The girl did a really good job.

So, here's the end result after a cut, color, brow wax and some makeup. For anyone who has known me for any amount of time, you'll know that I never wear makeup. Well, the girl put some makeup on at the end and I can't quit looking at myself!!
