YEs, it does look like cradle cap. This helped my ds:
Cradle Cap Care | Gentle Naturals

and there's a printable coupon for it

His doc recommended rubbing the flakes with baby oil and letting it sit five minutes then using a fine tooth comb to remove them.

It looks like dandruff to me. I sometimes get the same type of patch near the top of my head at my hairline. When I use dandruff shampoo regularly I don't get it but when I switch to regular shampoo it eventually comes back and I've only noticed it in the winter. What I would do is loosen it with a fine tooth comb until all flakes are loose and then wash with a dandruff shampoo after that.

    Yup what enginerd said.

get everything good and loose. You probably need to use a dandruff shampoo consistently to get rid of it.

I use Head and Shoulders intense treatment and that has helped the most.

Off hand it actually looks a lot like Psoriasis Symptoms, Causes, Treatment Information and Medication on MedicineNet.com

a friend of mine had it...and it looked very similar. If I recall right...it was itchy to her...and she treated it more with zyrtec and less with shampoo. But I thought I'd throw it out there as well...just in case.

Oh and should mention too...with dandruff shampoo...it's less important that it's on your hair...and more important that you scrub it into your scalp.

Looks like it might be psoriasis....I have had this for years....it would come and go but has mostly cleared up now. Next time you go the doc, have them check it out.

This looks like Seborrheic Dermatitis which is the adult version of cradle cap

It looks like my psoriasis. It will come every winter, and last a month or so. Then it should clear up. If you put a dab of cortizone cream on it every day and it gets better, then you will know.
    Sorry.
