Wow. You have had the year from he--. No wonder you are feeling so sad. I think it's amazing you are not only still functioning; you're even thinking about others and their welfare.

Even one of those experiences you describe is devastating. You had no time to grieve for one loss before you faced another so I think it's incredibly important to give yourself adequate time to feel sad and grieve. You don't "get over" someone you have loved for more than 20 years in a couple of months. It is going to take time to learn to adjust but try to remember that your mom would want you to be happy, healthy and enjoying life.

Maybe one day you can find a way to honor her by supporting a cause she believed in or one you feel you can make a difference in.

I'm sure your mom is very proud of you.

Hugs and prayers go out to you & your brothers.
Dec 27 will be 10 yrs since my mom passed away suddenly. As the others have mentioned, the pain eases a bit - you wont always feel this terrible - but for now your pain is understandable.
Just speaking from my own experience, I found a webasite at the time that was most helpful to me and my sister - its called griefnet.org.
There I could "talk" with others who understood me and we all helped each other thru rough times. Plus it was great in the middle of the night when I couldnt sleep - there was usually someone there.
    (((hugs)))

I'm sorry that you are going through all this, it is very difficult. My Mom was my best friend too.
The way that I cope with the loss over the holidays is to carry on a tradition of hers, something that she did that was special. In this case it is holiday baking and cooking. I make dishes and baked goods that she made, and share them with friends and family. It helps keep her spirit alive.
It also helps to recall and focus on happy memories of your Mom, and talk about them with your brother. In time you will be able to focus more on the happy memories as opposed to the grief. It will take a while, but this helps focus some of your thoughts in a positive way. Keep telling yourself that it would make your Mom happy to know that you were coping well.

We are going to have a holiday baking thread, where we share our thoughts, recipes, etc. Join us here over the holidays if you would like to share in our holiday cooking trials and tribulations .

I'm so sorry for your loss! I know you said you are in grief counseling, but you might also consider talking to your priest about how much you are hurting. At a time like this drawing closer to God can help. I'll say a prayer for you.
