Default Needing help with Astigmatism Contact Lenses

I was not sure if this is the right place but if not can a Mod. please move it to the right spot , thanks

Now my DD is 14 after many years of wearing Glasses and has been wanting to try Contacts. So far we decided against it being she was so young, but as she gets older and her Glasses gets so thick we finally talked with ther Eye doctor who thinks she can do it.

6 Pair for $ 100 Which is sopouse to last her a Year, a pair for each 2 Month. But she told me honestly being my DD is brand new at this it would possible last 6-8 Months

Which is still cheaper then getting her Glasses.

Who here has Astigmatism and uses Contacts ?
    Where do you buy youres?
Are daily ones better then the ones who *should* last 2 Month?
I never had Contacts myself so I dont have a Clue.

    ANY help would be great.

I have Astigmastism and have worn contacts for over 20 years. Your DD is lucky because it use to be more difficult and expensive than it is now. I wear the 2 month ones and they work fine. She may tear a few to start with, but if she is careful it shouldn't happen a lot. I get mine at Wal-Mart. It is the same price as 1-800 CONTACTS but you don't have to pay shipping. I have found them to be the least expensive option.

My DD is 15 and started wearing contacts last year.
She wears ocuvue oasis with a astigmatism contacts.
We just get hers form the eye doctor. (we do get reimbursed for some form ins.)
DD first boxes lasted her for the whole year.(should of only lasted 6 months.)
She takes them out when she gets home from school and wears her glasses then and on the weekends.
She makes sure that she cleans them really well also. This will insure that they last as long or longer than expected.
She did wear her glasses more in the winter time because she said that the contacts made her eyes watery when she walked in the cold.
Other than that she is happy with them.
The eye doctor will give you a trial pair to try out before you have to purchase your own.

Birthday Re: Needing help with Astigmatism Contact Lenses

I'd definately get your daughter contacts. Personally they made me feel
"prettier" . when I was a teen.. Plus, they're actually BETTER for her vision~
i am severely nearsighted and yes, the ASTG.. stuff.

Make sure you go to the Specialist.. Optomalogist.. think thats the right..
    the "dr" :).

Mine, gave me several brands , to try.. it all depends on how rough she is, w/ them, as far as their lasting.

Bc of my eyesight, I can't get dailies.. I wish!!
Softcontacts, seem to be a better choice..and better vision.

I have the type, that last 2 wks.. but I also wear glasses at home.. IF i could afford it.. i'd try wearing my contacts more..

Be sure, she's given several lessons, on how to put them in and have someone watch, to see if she's taking them out, the right way.

I'd go for it~.. the expense may vary.. it really depends on how, rough she is.. I'm not very good at being gentle, so right now, i have 6 Right contacts left and no left.. arghh

    Good Luck~

ps: I know they really improved my self esteem..
and later in life, when my then bf, first saw me, w/ glasses, he was like
ohhhh, now i know why you wear contacts!!
    yeah thks buddy!!! LOL~

Yes, daily ones are better for eye health and vision than ones that are replaced less frequently. They're more expensive but absolutely worth it for eye health.

1800CONTACTS is expensive unless you're price matching one of their online competitors (which you cannot do ordering through WalMart). I now buy from Costco as they also offer coupons from time to time on my brand.

ohh shopping online, can definately save you money!

Note: Make sure her glasses and contacts .. have the same script

I broke my old glasses, so.. i'm wearing even older glassess.. and the vision is off.. arghh

Vision stuff, annoys me.. i just want to see and be able to AFFORD it..
    ( my vent :P )

If she has an astg.. she probably can't wear dailies, but she'll be fine, w/ the 2 wk ones :)

I have astigmatism and I wear contacts. I would caution you though to be careful.

I bought my first few sets at my optometrist's office. They were the ones that were supposed to last about a year. I wore mine for a year and a half with no problems.

Then, I moved. I went to Sam's Club. I bought the 12 pairs for 12 months. I got an eye infection the first month and had never had any problems before so I'm not sure exactly what happened. I wore my glasses awhile and let me eyes recover.
About a month and a half later, I tried again with another pair from the same order and again got an eye infection. I stopped trying to use those lenses right away.

I don't know if it was because of the short term vs long term or something else. Just make sure to go to an actual optometrist and not a discount place unless you really know how reliable they are.

When I was a teenager I wore contacts for awhile. If you get a little piece of dirt that you can't see on them it scratches your eyes and hurts badly. Also consider they do get lost sometimes and at $100 each lense that is expensive. It was a long time ago so I know they are probably cheaper now though. I have astigmatism also and it is hard to fit them correctly. I don't wear contacts since I was 19 and I am blessed. Everyone thinks my glasses make me look cute. I met my husband wearing glasses and he thinks it is "hot", lol and it is so much easier. Just grab and throw on my face, my kind of laziness, lol

I vote to order lenses online. The price of my lenses at Sam's Club is higher than online by 25%. Really, just shop around. It's possible your doctor's office could be the most economical, but I wouldn't count on it.

I also have astigmatism & wear contact lenses, going on 12 years now.
I get my eye exam at Walmart - no problems there.
I have ordered contacts via Visiondirect.com and 1800contacts.com (Walmart's supplier) with no problems and you can usually wrangle a discount or at least free shipping. Great & quick service. You will need a photocopy or written prescription so you know what to order (power, bc, diameter, cylinder, axis) and the company will confirm your script with your exam provider.

I wear 1 month disposables (Air Optix for astigmatism) and, against doctor's wishes, I wear them for 1 1/2 months usually...my choice. I wear them all day, every day until about 10pm, and then I wear glasses for a bit.

My eyes aren't sensitive so I can use any brand of contact solution. If you're worried about possible tearing while she's cleaning them, try Clear Care solution. It's a "soak only" cleaner, no rubbing at all. Warning, you cannot squirt the solution onto the contact and then put the contact in your eye! Buy a different solution for those "quick clean" moments.

    :)
