QUESTION COMPUTER Help Please!!.. Keeps Freezing

hi, I'm tired and not sure, where this post goes. I can't search, bc my puter keeps freezing, every 10 mins or so.. and not doing anything.. sigh.. deep sigh.

The only defrag i know, is to hit F8, etc, I have an XP system.

I cleared out history, awhile ago, but probably needs it done again.
Can't remember those instructions, at the moment..

I really don't know much about computers, can anyone help.. give me some explict directions..for the computer!! Ideas, directions, suggestions?

    I'm really frustrated.. Thanks much~

ps: I probabaly won't be back here, until 12 western time.. or later.

    Malwarebytes

The link above is a great, free antimalware program. Try downloading and running it to see if it finds any nasty things on your computer.

I work for a University and we are approved to use this one our PCs so I 100% trust it.

I also use CCleaner to try to keep stuff cleaned up. But yeah, I'd first be checking for viruses/trojans. Clearing the temp files and such go to Tools (^up there), Interenet Options then you can clear histories, temp files, cookies, etc. Does it still freeze in Safe Mode? Can you run in Safe Mode? THere's also the possibility of a hardware problem, such as a fan not working and it's getting too hot. When my power supply started going out, I had similar problems, then it just started shutting itself off ramdomly...I feel your pain. lol The last "bad" virus I had a year or so ago had infected my anti-virus program (AVG), so it wasn't even working properly. I had to scrub the computer and start over. It took my hubby and a friend both at the same time on two keyboards to get to clear it. It was bad. lol It wouldn't shut down the operating system. (Hubby likes to visit "those" kind of sites.....I tell him and he knows, but he does it anyway...lol).

I'm just on my first cup of coffee, so if I think of more, I'll come back.

The game apps on Facebook often freeze and I have to ctrl/alt/del to shut it down and reopen again...

Oh, did it just start doing it? You could try a System Restore to an earlier date and see if that helps. Go to :Start :Programs:Accesorries:System Tools:System Restore, and pick an earlier date with a Restore point. If you can't access it in running regular mode without if freezing, then try it in Safe Mode when you start it up (hittiing F8 over and over till you get the "Run in Safe Mode" screen. If you can't get it to do that, go to :Start:Run and type in : "msconfig" (without the quote marks) and hit enter. It'll bring up a system configuration utility box, click on the BOOT:INI tab, then select SAFEBOOT and apply. I think you have to restart then (it's been a while since I had to do it). Then do the Restore in Safe Mode. You will have to go back in to the same Start:Run thing again after you're done and change it back to regular startup.
