    Kids Question about potty training

I have tried to start potty training my son (he is 32 months old). We got a potty chair awhile back and just let him get used to it. He was interested for awhile and now could care less about it. So I let him pick out a soft cushion to go on the toilet and tried that today.
I think he is getting near ready, but I just dont know...so I thought I would give it a try today. He does know the difference between wet and dry and most of the times he wants it off when he goes. He definitely does not stay dry at night....but does stay dry for 2 or more hours sometimes.
I put up a sticker chart, put on his "big boy" underwear, even put some underwear on his teddy bear and told him to make sure Teddy stayed dry today. I took him first thing in the morning...no luck...set the timer...gave him lots of juice and milk...took him back every 30 min or so. Let him look at books while he sat. He was ok some of the time, but most of the time he would scream and say "Nooooo" every time I told him it was time to go to the potty. He did not want to go. Then he peed in the living room...so we clean that up (no biggie). Kept trying all afternoon...he just does not seem interested. So now he is napping and I am just wondering, do you guys think I should keep it up or wait a week or two?? I read so many things that say dont push it if they dont seem interested so I havent, but of course my whole family is pushing me saying things like "He should be potty trained by now!" blah blah blah. I try not to let it get to me but it does.
Also, we are so used to going out and about everyday...it is hard to find things to do around the house, especially when it is so hot out. What did you guys do?
    Any opinions? Thanks!

My son will be 3 in september and he isn't interested right now. We aren't pushing it and when he wakes up dry we ask him if he wants to sit on the potty, he says No, we just put the diaper back on and go on with the day. My son won't go if he has nothing on but will hold it and hold it until you put on a diaper then he will pee.

I have a friend and their son wasn't potty trained until 3 1/2 but both of their daughters were potty trained by 2 1/2.

I would not force him to sit if he is screaming no...give him a little break and maybe just try it once a day getting him to sit on the potty (toilet, potty chair). My girls were a breeze to do it but the boys took a lot longer and they still have poop accidents from time to time and they are 5 and 7 (7 year old is high functioning autistic but has some sensory issues and does not realize he needs to go, the 5 year old is just lazy at it, he has a twin sister who mothers him and if she could poop for him he would let her LOL)

My dd will be 4 in September and we've only been diaper free here for a few months, maybe since May ish or so. We had a potty chair from Safety 1st we picked up at walmart that can be a potty chair and a stool and she loved the stool part but didn't really care for the potty part. Then just one day it was like a light switch came on and she just said ok, I'm done with diapers, lets do the potty thing and that's been it, we haven't even had night accidents. So I wouldn't push it and just let it come when he's ready.

I have one that is almost 40 months (yikes that sounds old), so almost 3.5. Him and the potty really confuse me. Now he has some other issues that I think are really frustrating the whole situation. He has big time issues with transitions and, let me tell you, stopping to go to the bathroom is one big transition. I have been working on the potty thing with him since March. In May we took a trip to Disney and the boy had two accidents the entire week at Disney. We get home and he was having days where he was having 4 accidents in one day. Mine also doesn't like to poop, which causes problems. I guess I'm trying to say that your child is perfectly normal. Give it a rest for about a month and then try again. But also think about what would work for him as a reward. Is it going to be stickers, a toy, food, special juice? Each kid is a little different.

Now about the staying in. I'm going to say that BOTH of kids have done better with the potty, in general, away from home. At the store and the park, etc. they don't seem to be quite as distracted and liked the idea of going in all these different potty's. Our mall has the miniature potty's and my dd loved those. I joke I could have potty trained her faster there. So, maybe find some of those.

Good luck!! I think potty training is one of the hardest things!

My DD potty trained later than "normal" according to some standards. She would use the potty to poop, but rarely to pee for the longest time. Then just like a PP said, something just "clicked" one day. She stopped peeing in her Pull Ups and only went in the potty. So we moved onto big girl panties that week. And with the exception of a few accidents, she was trained.

Don't listen to what other people say. Boys are generally slower at potty training anyway. And he's nowhere near even the late standard for girls. I think people our age were pushed into things faster than they should've been as children. Times change and parenting does too.

its only after I gave up, then DD decided she wanted to use the potty and the big potty at 3.5!

My mom says I was done by 18 months, MIL swears DD was at 9 months, but DH said she didn't do it, his grandma did the potty training!
