HI Michigan anyone? I may be moving there.......

I'm a Florida girl currently living in Alabama. My husband may be taking a contract job in the Detroit area. I have never been to the state. Any info on grocery stores and good deal places?

I'm guessing there is no Publix there.:shrug7:

    TIA

Not sure, but here's an alphabetical listing of grocery stores in Detroit, if you know your future zip code you could narrow it down some, hope this helps!

I have lived in both Alabama and Indiana (DH is from MI). My big piece of advice - the very first winter buy the nicest heaviest coat (in MI) you can find, nice warm snow boots, some good socks, good gloves, a nice winter hat, and some cuddleduds. That and make an agreement ahead of time what you set the thermostat at. If you do all that, you'll be fine!

As a lifelong Michigander, I would add several pairs of gloves (they seem to disappear...or you end up with the single glove pile....and yes, when its cold, unmatched gloves may not be fashionable, but who cares) and a good snow brush & scrapper for your car. Get the last 2 long before you think you will need them and keep them in your car...nothing worse then going to work on a nice fall day only to leave on a nice winter day, with that nice frozen stuff falling all over your car in between.

Check out Bargainstobounty blog too, she has a great round of the stores in the greater Detroit area that will really help you out.

My DH lost ONE glove like three years in a row in MARCH. Of course, it was always the same one so we didn't have a pair of even mismatched ones. Try finding gloves in March. You still need them, but stores are putting out shorts!
