Early Head Start Program

Has anyone done this or is doing this and has it helped your child(ren) in social skills and other skills?

Need some feedback, because I am thinking about applying to put my DD(16months) in this program to help her social skills with other children amoung other things.

I'm not doing it through the Head Start Program, but we are putting DS#3 in a 2yrold program in the fall. He is with me at all times and does not really have any kids other than my twins and their teenage friends to play with, so I figured 2 days a week for 2 hours a day he will have some interaction w/ someone other than adults and teens!

This is actually 4 hours a day but you can leave them there for 1 hour or more and they do field trips and stuff. DD reallt needs more interaction with children her age, instead of adults.

We have a mother's morning out program that is similar. 4 hours a day, 2, 3 or 5 days a week. I put my son in it when he was about to turn 4 (but missed the cut off for state pre-k) because I wanted him to socialize. He has done wonderful :)
I will be enrolling my 2yo this fall. I think it really helps to learn dicipline and boundaries from someone besides us. He has had to learn more about sharing and to respect people (teachers and other kids) than I could have taught him here at home.

What kind of activities do they do?

My dd is in early headstart...homebased program. They come to our home once a week and do activities, art, music, books ect... they also do evaluations to see how they are doing socially, academically, developmentally.

I'm alo on the policy council for EHS for our area as well.

This will be at an actual place close to me and they have alot of other children there to interact with her.

They offer both here...but we do home based because of my son's health issues (he's in reg headstart...home based.)

In the toddler room, its alot about pretend play, kitchen, blocks that kind of thing. They also learn their letters (ABC song) and to count. They do some serious potty training with reward charts. I'm super excited about that part!! LOL
They also eat snack with the older kids in the lunchroom and have recess for outside play.
