Default Puppy food for adult dog?

I have (2) 4lb bags of puppy chow but my dog turned one in dec. is it ok to give her those last two bags and then start with adult food thereafter?

You could always get the adult food you want to use and mix the puppy food in it to use it up and wean her off it.

I'd mix it in...you usually want to mix in any change of diet anyway...

I'd mix the puppy food with the adult food-puppy food can really take a toll on an adult dogs digestive system because of the high fat content-and you could end up with one sick puppy dog.

Wanted to ditto this. In addition, most puppies do best being switched over at 6 months instead of a year old. Too many calories and too much fat, just as this poster said. :)

I'd mix together as well, puppy food is very high in fat which can do more harm then good for an adult dog. You could always donate one of the puppy food bags to an animal shelter and use one bag for introducing the new food mixed with the old.

It really depends on the breed. What kind of dog do you have?

Some vets recommend feeding puppy food to larger breeds for up to 2 years if they are not predisposed to weight issues, especially if they are breeds who are typically underweight when young and active.

Our vet recommended this for our black lab. He's super active and eats like a horse.
