ROFL - I just walked in from my garage wondering the same thing. I have about 15 single lids from those clear sweater boxes. If nothing matches up mine are going to recycling.
I am a storage freak so I have tons and tons of rubbermaid style bins, big and small. Well I don't know how, but I have about 14 of the shoe box lids w/ no matching bin??? lol I have another 5 or so of the big lids and no matching bin! I have scoured the house trying to play match up, but this is what I have left. Now I'm all for holding on to a few just in case another gets damaged, but this is just too many! Now I did put a few big lids to use as boot/shoe trays by the doors, but that seems to be as imaginative as I get! Any ideas?

If I still had some small animals, I could use them as liners to the bottom of their cage... I will prolly put them in the recycling bins too if I can't find a practical use for them.
I'd much rather have random lids than small animals :)

are they big enough that you can make sleds of them for the kids? a rope through 2 holes in the front for a handle--- wweeee fun times in the snow!
if not, sorry, but if they don't match up they get recycled.
depending on size...
sleds...for the kids or for yardwork (branches, leaves ect)
under your plants to catch drips
in the cabinet under sticky things like syrup
boot trays
under the cat box to catch stray litter
under the pet food dish to catch drips
Criminy, I have the same thing happen with the plastic lids for food containers, you know the Ziploc and Glad ones? Don't ask me where the containers end up, I can't for the life of me figure that one out.
Kind of like the basket on top of the dryer with unmatched socks....the sock gnome gets those I swear.
Maybe there's a container gnome running loose?! lol

You know what's going to happen, don't you? As soon as you get rid of the lids you'll find a couple of boxes with NO lid!
