    Globe Snow Karma

We got walloped with some snow today, which just paralyzes the town. It took me 3 hours to go 9 miles and stop to get some milk and gas along the way. We live on a hill, and two of the roads up our hill get locked down the minute snow hits, so I had to go the long way home.

    But here's the Karma part.

Last week, I took my kids skiing. I own a set of chains, but Mark, in his wisdom before he left for Iraq, cleaned the garage and moved them. So when I went to go find them, they were no where to be had.

Not wanting to go up the mountain without chains (it's required actually), I stopped and bought another set.

We got up to the mountain and had to put them on and it was awful. Took me and my MIL and the snow plow guy quite some time to get them on, then it took me, my MIL, and 3 guys at the Dairy Queen to get them off...in the rain mind you.

I decided we wouldn't be doing that again. Rolled up the chains and went straight to the tire store to put studless snow tires on. But then I tucked the chains in the back of the car, just in case when we went up to the mountain, the tires didn't perform how they said they would.

    Fast forward a week later....

We're in this snow mess, and coming up the last hill to my house. There's a car in the middle of the two-lane road and she's spun out in a way that cars are going neither up nor down the hill. I was about 10 or so cars back down the hill, and I had one of the kids in the car. The other two inadvertently got stuck at home for several hours because of the snow. What was supposed to be home for less than an hour after their grandma dropped them off turned into about 5 hours because of the snow. So I just needed to get home.

I looked up and the car was actually an Astro van. All these guys were out of their cars trying to help them, but to no avail.

So I threw my car into park, shut it off, and locked my 8-year old in. Got my snow boots on which were still in the car from last week, and grabbed the chains and trekked up the hill. I asked her if she wanted to try the chains - and sure enough, they'd fit. She was amazed anyone would have a spare and be willing to share them.

We got them on her car with some help from some other drivers. And she was able to get on her way. I told her I'd give her my number and she could bring the chains back later. Instead, she handed me a check for the price I'd bought the chains for.

So, I freed up the road for about 100 cars, helped the lady get on her way, and wound up getting reimbursed for chains I would never use again.

People helped me last week, I was able to help someone this week - and everyone got home safely!

Everything happens for a reason - I'm a firm believer in that!

That's awesome.........you did your good deed for the day.....

I really don't understand why everyone don't do these kind of things....because you always get paid back....if people could only figure that out........do unto others as you would have people do unto you...

That's awesome. I also believe everything happens for a reason.
Raising children(especially teens) is like being pecked to death by a chicken

In my defense, I will only bid human beings in the auction forum if it's a MM.

Glad to know that I wasn't the only one that took more than 3 hours to get home! I had to sit down at the bottom of my hill with my friend and have dinner and wait for some of the crap to die down that was going on! So in all total including dinner I left work at 3:30 and did not get home until 7:30.
