Re: We had to put our beloved Newman to sleep yesterday :( I am so sorry for your loss. I hope that you will find some measure of comfort in the kind words that people will leave for you here. My heart goes out to you
I had a darling little black & tan long haired dachshund girl, Pooh, that I had to make the same decision for last year about this time. She was 1 month from being 15 yrs old, bless her heart. The teenage daughter went with me & stayed with us in the room...it was really hard for both of us. Hanna had never known a time without Pooh here. They are as much family as my kids! Since Pooh had lost most of her teeth toward the end, I cooked for her...pulled chicken & rice mostly. But Skylar was worried that God wouldn't know how to fix Pooh's food...so that's why she prays when we sit down to eat...she prays that God fixes Pooh's meals correctly & knows what meds to give her. She still does this even today, a year later. She doesn't understand that Pooh doesn't need all those meds now & she's better off now than we are...sassy little thing.
I hope your you & daughter can also take comfort in the happy memories that you both have of Newman. My girls both had little stuffed toy puppies that looked just like Pooh, have had them for a long time...but after her death they really held on to those a little more tightly for a while, slept with them, but it got better over time. Children are resilient. Your heart is so heavy now because you loved so much...I pray that you will have peace about it. Take care...
