The exact flat iron I've been using for years is on sale online for $29.99 at Sally Beauty Supply. Jilbere de Paris - Ceramic Tools - Porcelain Flat Irons

When I bought it years ago, it was $40 or $50. It must have broken somehow when moving all of my stuff in to and out of storage for my deployment, because it wouldn't heat up. I happened to still have the receipt, and they told me to mail it in and they'd fix it. I received a brand new, still in package flat iron back. It was over a year and a half since I bought it, because that's how long my training/deployment was. I've been using it a few times weekly for about a year and a half and have had no issues.

Great flat iron, 30 heat settings, ceramic plates. It's a good brand and their customer service is superb. I highly recommend it, especially at the price its going for right now.

I have a CHI and I'm obsessed with it- it is fantastic. And you can get good deals- try Costco, Trade Secret (if you use your card, you get money/points back). I got my CHI blow dryer on Overstock for a pretty good deal.

That all being said, I would not spend that much on a 13 yr old (they can run $80 or so). I would check out the ones they sell in the mall kiosks- they are supposed to be really good. I can't think of the brand name though....

Hi there! i just had to reply...i just bought myself a new flat iron and my little sister the exact same one i got.

I bought both of them for $20.00 a piece. We a love them! They are comparable to the CHI but its a ZOE. Found them at ULTA usually they have coupons in Sundays papers or online?

Well, good luck to you!

~monica
(this is a ZOE really cute..the one we have is blue ..with rhinestones..)

Thank you everyone! I appreciate hearing about the one that does the wet to dry hair. ITA--how can that be good for the hair?

I will look into all the suggestions. From what you all are posting, it sounds like I should stay away from the ones at Walmart and Target.

like everyone else said, the chi is the best when your don't mind dropping a little cash. i prolly wouldn't tho for my teenager (if i had one). but my mom is a hairstylist and got mine for 50% at her hair product supplier. so i mean if you know a hairstylist i would suggest asking them to buy it for you and you can pay for it since they get the products for wholesale.

a few years ago i had a conair one and it was white (that's all i remember) it worked really well and only cost about $20. i got it at wal-mart so maybe take a look when you are there next time.

Thanks for the suggestion. But I think this is a matter of a 13 year old wanting what her friends have whether her hair really needs it or not.

Whatever you do get a ceramic or porcelain flat iron. They work way better and are easier on the hair. It is also really, the only way for her to get the "popular" uber straight hair that will stay that way all day (or until it is washed). Get the one inch kind, because it can be used to curl the hair in a fun/popular way too (that a curling iron can't do).

I am partial to my CHI - I love it. But good luck!

I have a Conair Breast Cancer Awareness one. I think it was like $25 bucks and I have been really impressed with it. I have very thick curly hair that is super frizzy. This makes it look like a "real" persons hair, haha. I do not use it everyday- but it has lasted several years. Plus, it's for a good cause and I love the color.
