Default DS 6th birthday ideas

I am in need of some ideas for party games, etc. for my son's 6th b-day party. We normally have it somewhere (bowling, etc.), but would like to just have a few of his friends at the house, but still keep it fun for them. We'll probably try a pinata, decorate cup cakes, but need some activity ideas.

Reps and thanks for your help!
-Jennifer

This seems to be a well liked one at the parties we have gone to in the past year or so.

Using 2 or more different wrapping papers. Wrap a small cheap toy in one type of wrapping paper (a little larger toy to start with). Alternating papers and which side the seams are on do layers of paper. Some layers would have another small toy or candy in them others would have nothing. Do as many layers as you want. Then at the party you have the kids sit in a circle and pass the package around while the music plays, when the music stops the kid holding the package gets to open one layer and keep the prize in that layer if there is one.

Or Shrinky Dinks

Thanks for the great game idea! DS wants to make a pinata (w/ some great Halloween Target clearance stuff to fill it with), cup cake decorating & we'll have to come up with a few more games. Any other ideas out there, please let me know your thoughts!
Thanks again!

One game that we've done and the kids Looooveeee, is pop-for-a-prize.

Buy a bunch of neat (and inexpensive) little toys, and give them all a number. Blow up the same number of balloons with the coresponding #'s inside.

Dump them all on the floor, using BUTTS only, kids have to pop them and get the little slip of paper out. THat number matches up to a prize!

The one with the wrapping gifts is called "Pass the Parcel", they play it in English countries like Australia. You should do a small gift between each layer for young kids, and better prizes here and there. So, something like a pencil or eraser or sticker or stick of gum is a small prize. A green army man or spider ring is a better prize. A pack of playing cards is a big prize. Play music and stop and start and be sure each child gets a turn.

How about the old stand bys that will be all new to them? Pin the tail on the donkey (or whatever animal or object fits your theme). Musical chairs, follow the leader, treasure hunt or scavenger hunt (scavenger hunt is a list, treasure hunt is x amount of time to find things you've hidden), Simon Says, things like that.

Enjoy! My dd turned 6 today and is home sick as a dog. Hopefully she'll be up for Red Robin on Saturday with her bff and the family. If not, we'll have to move it to another weekend.
