Little boy has a low temp

My little boy who is 21 months old started crying tonight after being asleep for a little while. He usually sleeps really good thru the night. So after a few minutes I realized he was not going to stop crying and go back to sleep, I went to check on him. After rocking and cuddling, he still wasnt calming down much so I gave him some Motrin, which I dont do very often, thinking maybe he was teething or having a tummy ache. Well I came back and decided to take his temp. It was 95.9! This was rectally taken. He has had a low temp a couple other times when he was ill, but just wondering if anyone knows what causes a low temp in a child?
He did not feel cold at all....thats why I took his temp. The thermometer is not old and usually works really well.
Finally I rocked him and got him back to sleep.....any ideas?

I don't know what causes a low temp in kids but I know a low temp isn't uncommomn. My moms normal is right at 96. Mine ranges from 97-99 on a regular basis. I think everyones temp is a little different. Also, I don't remember which Dr. told me this (migraine or gyn) but when they originally said way back that normal temp is 98.6 the Dr. or scientists thermometer or gauge was calibrated wrong. So 98.6 isn't right anyway. You could probably google and find out more. Just an interesting piece of info! I hope your son feels better! :)
