Hugs to all the families with soldiers away. If you live in a small town, check with the newspaper and see they offer newspapers for no cost to soldiers oversees. I live in a small town and our paper will send a copy to local soldiers. They also usually send cards or thank you messages in the paper. Hugs to you all.

Well my fiance leaves for Iraq tomorrow and Im starting to feel a bit depressed

I am so sorry that you are going through this. I have never been through it so I don't know what to tell you. Just keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers. He will be okay and the time will go quickly until he is home with you again.

I've been on both sides of the "fence" so to say. My mom and I were both deployed to Iraq the first time, and then my mom has done a second tour.

My advice would be the same as others have said, keep busy, send him letters and boxes, and no news is good news.

When my mom was deployed and I was home, the hard part was I was pregnant with my DS, who was born the day she had boots on ground back in the states.

Just know that you aren't alone and you can PM any time you want to talk.

Well he has officially left 40 mins ago and is heading towards Iraq as of this moment and to make things worse he tried calling me and my phone wasnt working but I was able to get his last txt and when I saw in his msg that said he was trying to call and wasnt getting through, i got really upset! I tried calling him back but by then his phone had already been cut off since it wont work in Iraq, he has discontinued service, so now I feel even worse!

He will have plenty of opportunities to call you. He won't actually have boots on ground doing his mission for a couple of weeks. His first stop will be Kuwait I'm sure, and he has nothing to worry about there.

Well he did tell me that his first stop would be Kuwait since its a green zone and he would be there for 3 wks., and that does make me feel a bit better but I know that once those 3 wks are up hes heading straight to Iraq, and it just has me kind of on edge.
