Re: Cannot Sleep - Can anyone relate?! The things that work best for me are journaling every morning first thing when I wake up. Make sure you set a goal and stick with it, otherwise it will just be more stressful. I write three notebook-sized pages of stream-of-consciousness writing every day. Some days there is a lot of "I can't think of anything to write about today. This is so stupid and pointless." on the page. The important thing is not to stop and think about what you are writing and just keep on going until you've finished the third page. Eventually, the important stuff that's stressing you will find its way out. That's how I deal with the stress that keeps me up at night.
As far as actually getting to sleep, I use a white noise machine that I set to go off after 30 minutes. The one I got is from Walmart, and was only about $15. I usually set it to Ocean waves, but it has other sounds that you might like. It's nice to have something else to concentrate on and relax me. I also use lavender essential oil to help relax me. You can either use a diffuser next to your bed, or diffuse a few drops of it into a cup of warm water. The fragrance is a natural relaxer/stress reliever and also works really well to help tame headaches.
