Took the Benadryl..made me nice and drowsy but did not work for sleeping. Got a whole 4 hrs of sleep last night.......broken up in 1/2 sections.

The things that work best for me are journaling every morning first thing when I wake up. Make sure you set a goal and stick with it, otherwise it will just be more stressful. I write three notebook-sized pages of stream-of-consciousness writing every day. Some days there is a lot of "I can't think of anything to write about today. This is so stupid and pointless." on the page. The important thing is not to stop and think about what you are writing and just keep on going until you've finished the third page. Eventually, the important stuff that's stressing you will find its way out. That's how I deal with the stress that keeps me up at night.

As far as actually getting to sleep, I use a white noise machine that I set to go off after 30 minutes. The one I got is from Walmart, and was only about $15. I usually set it to Ocean waves, but it has other sounds that you might like. It's nice to have something else to concentrate on and relax me. I also use lavender essential oil to help relax me. You can either use a diffuser next to your bed, or diffuse a few drops of it into a cup of warm water. The fragrance is a natural relaxer/stress reliever and also works really well to help tame headaches.

My best remedy is an herbal combination of hops and valerian. I slept 8 hrs without waking once the last few nights. I have the menopausal sleep disruptions but have found these herbs to work wonders!!!

I don't sleep much either sometimes I just lay in bed with my eyes closed but can't sleep I look at the clock and it's 1, 2, 3am My mind is just going non stop about the house, dogs, hubby, bills, DD even thinking about things that happened years ago, my mind feels like a TV like someone is just flipping through chanels over and over. Every morning I feel like a zombie no energy at all.

The melatonin is really good. It's naturally in your body, and can be extremely helpful to sleep.

I like Ambien CR. Dr. Weil for Origins Night Balm with its application method is great too.

I hope these ideas are working for you!

I like Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime tea - I use two bags and let it steep at least 1/2 hour (using an insulated mug with a top). It makes me sleepy and no druggy feeling the next day (like Benadryl/pain reliever PM). I had an extreme case recently where after a month of 0 - 3 hours a night I broke down and got Ambien CR.

First of all, I really like your avatar Lala.

You sound just like me, being like a tv flipping channels! LOL. I know that some people can't sleep because they worry about things, but even if I am not worried about anything I can't stop thinking. It is very hard for me to shut the brain off and go to sleep. I always feel like sleep is a waste of time, but I know it is really important for health reasons. I just always feel like I am gonna miss something or there is something better I could be doing.

Ambien works for me but then I'm tired the next day. My problem is too much caffeine though. I need to cut it out but then I would be a zombie lol.
