Swine Flu Vaccine - Will you get it?

I really wish people would educate themselves better about the swine flu. I listened to this woman yesterday go on and on about how her kids must have had the swine flu because they were "dizzy" for a couple days and they NEVER get dizzy. Someone asked about a fever and she replied they never got a fever, which rather negates swine flu since the #1 symptom is the high fever *sigh*

My DH still thinks it stomach flu.

He has no concept of it...has never had it and has no idea how sick any flu can make you....I've had it before would wish not to get it again. And for the record....I did not get my flu shot that year.

Are they giving them away free at all health departments... is that the norm? I was expecting it to cost something even at the health department.

Those who have already gotten the Swine flu vaccine.... any side effects after the fact? just curious.. I am going to get one if I can - I was just wondering if they had anything at all in the days that followed the vaccine...

It "should" be the norm to get the h1n1 shot free at the health department...because they did not have to pay for that shot....now whether they follow the rules or not :shrug7: I do not know.

Me my sisters (in our 30's) and my three children(1, 3, 7) have all gotten the shot. No fevers, no chills, no neurological events, the only thing that happened was the site of the shot was sore for a couple of days...and not that bad at all...we just kept rubbing it.

If you tolerate the regular flu shot...you should tolerate this one just fine. They already have other h1n1 varient flu viruses in the regular flu shot....just not this current one that is spreading.

So, I was talking to my grandma up in Canada yesterday and she was telling me how people have been coming out in herds to get the H1N1 vacine. Alberta was going to have enough for every resident to get it, but they did not expect that they would all come AT ONE TIME to get it. So, now there is shortages. (My grandma was upset, because she is high risk going through chemo now and is more vulnerable to catch things...she's afraid she won't be able to get her shot.)
Everyone just panicked and so the first day it was avaliable they lined up for hours and hours to get it. (And this is in weather that is like...20 or 30 degrees, keep in mind). Thousands of people lined up around a clinic in freezing temperatures for hours to get this shot. Really?!

Anyway, I wonder if this type of thing will happen in the US. This is what happens when the media and the government over-hype this stuff. We need to be aware, but, maybe not blow it out of proportion...

School nurses mistakenly gave the swine flu vaccine to two students who didn't sign up for it - including a Brooklyn girl with epilepsy who wound up in the hospital.

When the nurse called for a student Thursday morning, Nikiyah's teacher misunderstood and sent the wrong student, Troy said.

The error was compounded when the nurse didn't check Nikiyah's name before sticking her in the shoulder, the mother said.

"The school made a horrible mistake," she added. "They never asked for her name. They have no paperwork....How do you make a mistake like this?"

After the mistake was discovered, officials summoned Troy to the school, she said.

Troy said the nurse - a Department of Health employee - tried to get her to sign a consent form, after the fact.

"I was insulted. I was really angry. 'You just incriminated yourself even more,'" Troy recalled thinking.

Sorry didn't read through the thread fully, but has anyone with an egg allergy get the H1N1 vaccine yet? Any problems? DS#3 has an egg allergy - has had the regular flue shot but with this being new.... you know how it is! lol

It's made exactly like the regular flu shot. In fact next year it will be in the regular flu shot.

The friends that I have that need to have the allergist...test the shot and then give them the vaccine...are finding it impossible because no allergists can get a hold of the vaccine currently.

When we went...they wanted to know if you had a severe allergy to eggs. A mild one...they were not concerned.
