I got the boys the regular flu shot - and I'm going to pass on it. But not sure I'm going to do the swine flu shot. DH get's every shot out there on the market - he is spleenless so they treat him like he's a toddler when it comes to his immune system.

I have 105 bottles of clorox wipes from a sale earlier in the month - no swine flu at my house!

Both DH and I had the Swine flu last week...so there's no sense in getting the shot now. We were over it within about three days and the worst part was the fever. I was on the fence about getting the shot because I have asthma and most colds and flu bugs have me in bed for weeks. I was surprised that this was pretty mild for me anyway.

I can have the H1N1 shot, but not the mist. So, I wait. I will get it if there's enough after vaccinating kids & all, but it seems kinda pointless to stand in a huge line & possibly catch it from someone that just hasn't developed any symptoms yet.

I am going first thing in the mornings to do my shopping & wiping down anything I'll use immediately with my stash of Clorox wipes. I clean my hands, steering wheel, door handle, etc.. each time I get in the truck. Just some common sense & a touch of paranoia should suffice.

They're saying those born before 1950 may have some immunity due to the 1918 pandemic. I don't know if this includes you, but it does make me wonder if things like childhood illness may play a part, along with age. Someone who caught every single virus as a child & is now 40ish, 50ish... may have a stronger immunity to this??? But that could just be my insomnia talking...

It's just weird how it goes after one who's perfectly healthy & then barely affects someone such as yourself, kwim?

That's interesting...No I'm no I'm only in my 30's. My mother did tell me though that she got the contraversial vaccination in the seventies while pregnant with me. So could that have made me stronger? I don't know. :shrug7:

Hmmmm, I dunno. They really can't explain all that's happening with this. I am in my 30's too, but my dad was born in 1919, so I also wonder if one can pass on a predisposition for illness to their offspring, can they pass on immunity? <Maggie ponders...>

Those over 24 seem to be faring better...but each case is kind of individualized. Some are doing quite well...and some who have no chronic conditions are dying from it.

swine flu in particular is just a crazy virus. it pops up every decade or so...and then disappears again.

2 of my internet friends still have there child inpatient (going on 2 weeks) and someone with my sons dx in the U.K. landed themselves inpatient for about 4 days with it. bahhhhhh

can't wait for this flu season to be over.

I won't be getting either..the last time I had the flu shot -I got the flu.it was worse than I had ever had it..I was out for a week. And it kept returning.I hardly ever get sick "knock on wood" and when i do it's only for a a short period of time.however my DH wants our DD to have the swine flu shot.

No. I'm taking cod liver oil and my kids are taking their multi. If we get sick we have vitamin C, zinc, etc here in the house. There are a lot of good books in your library about vaccines. The flu shot is not very effective from what I've read.

Right now, I plan on getting my kids vaccinated for the regular flu and the H1N1. Two physicians I highly respect encouraged me to vaccinate my kids. That being said I do not believe I will actually be able to get the swine flu vaccine for my kids because we have private insurance.
