I think 36 is definitely pushing it with all the risks involved, like developmental disorders.
I dont want to hurt a friends feelings by saying this though.

Just curious as to what others think......OR if you are!!

My mom had her last child at 36.... He's now 16, 6 foot 3 and healthy as a horse :)

My aunt also had her last son 2 years ago...at 41. Other than being a PITA, he's fine too!

    Honestly, we're talking about 36... not 56.

As long as she is healthy! Why not? Same for ANY age!

My best-friend is trying to get pregnant w/ her 3rd child and she'll be 39 in 3 days. Her oldest will be 19 on the same day.
She's healthy, I see no problem with it. She's waited a long time to be in the place she wanted to be before getting pregnant w/ her 3rd. This would be her husband's first.

On a side note, my mom had me when she was 35 and I was her one and only.

We didn't have our first until I was 35! My gyno/nurse is pushing me for #2 and I'm 38 now. Go for it-if all is well.

I started late-- I was 32 when my DD was born. And although I wouldn't do it again at my present age of 35 or older, other people can do what they want to do.

No I dont think so at all. Alot of people are getting married later in life and are having kids at a later age now. I see nothing wrong with it. My cousin just got married and hes 30. They are going to wait a few years to have kids. My mother in law had her last when she was 37.

I had my first one at 33. I am 35 now and not planning on trying again until next year. If things go as planned, I will be 37 when the second comes along.

My ob/gym, who I've been with for 16 years now, said they don't consider anything under 40 to be high risk anymore with all of the advanced screening and testing they have now. The baby still has great chances of being completely healthy although conception might be harder.

No, I don't think that 36 is too OLD to have a baby. The risk of Downs Syndrome goes up slightly past age 35, but not by much. You run the risk of having a child with problems no matter what age you are. As long as you understand those risks and are able to cope with them if they come up, I don't think 36 is too old.

Matter of fact, I don't think there is an age that is too old, if you are up for it, can cope with any complications, it is none of my business if you want to have a baby at 36, 46, 56 or 66!

Your risk of having twins increases as you are older too, so she should take that into account.

I think the health status of the mother is more vital than chronologic age. I've seen first time moms @ 40 and they had uncomplicated pregnancies and uneventful deliveries.
