CHAT Bad houseguests? Let's hear about 'em

I have a horrid houseguest this weekend (not by choice) and want to know that others have been in the same boat.

The weekend isn't over yet and:

My main bathroom has been "enema HQ" ALL WEEKEND. PLUS enema paraphernalia all over my DINING ROOM TABLE! (This is a personal thing and I don't believe you should announce it to everyone or leave it on the table I eat at.)

He spilled Pepto-Bismol in my silverware drawer! All over my silverware! I opened it up this morning to grab a spoon and my silverware is pink! You seriously couldn't clean that up? I called him on it and it is still sitting there. That is until I tell him he is cleaning all my silverware.

He knocked on our bedroom door at 230 am to ask us how to turn off the lamp!

I've found yogurt bottles, trash and dirty clothes in my kitchen, living room and bathroom.

He asked for soup, and I got down on my hands and knees and pulled out a ton of stuff out of my stockpile cabinet. He heated it up, took a sip with one of my measuring cups, and the rest is still sitting on the stove in the pan. (measuring cup included)

Years ago had a friend staying with us. My oldest was not quite one and I was pregnant with the next one. We were trying to help him out, but as seems to be true with most alkies, there's just no helping them. He was an alright guy, but would get sloppy when really drunk. I'd gone to bed one night while there were people over. I don't quite remember who all was here. Next thing I knew, this guy climbs into bed with me. *blinks*

I laid there for a minute and then thought "no way he's doing this". I got up and went and got my hubby. Told him "C" had climbed in bed with me and I didn't quite know what to do. Hubby went back and woke him up and got him out of there. lol We still laugh about it to this day.

We no longer try to help anyone that has substance abuse problems. Be it drugs or alcohol, I won't have any of it around my kids. They just want enablers and I won't deal with it. We no longer talk to hubby's brother. Long story, of course, but he's another problem child.

Does every time my MIL stops by count?

Oh boy, where do I start?

Years ago, with parents being away and me being an awkward teen, instead of throwing a wild party I cleaned the entire house, did the laundry and just sat down to enjoy myself in front of the TV ... lo and behold, my cousin and his father showed up. Let me tell you just one thing about them and you will understand my horror: apparently they are fans of some weird 'back to nature' cult that allows them to bathe once, alright twice a month. When they were at our door it became evident that the last bath or shower happened too looooong ago. In two seconds flat our house, I swear, could smell them and had either a heart attack or smth similar. The cousin and his father made themselves at home and the first thing they did was hang their stinky musty sweaters (spring rain + who knows if they ever washed their clothing) over freshly laundered and ironed sheets, hanging on a portable dryer. Needless to say, I was speechless. I know it was inexcusable but I was a teen at the time, so the only thing I could think of was throw their stinky sweaters into the washer, cussing at the top of my lungs that if they did not take a shower right now, they would no longer have to endure my hospitality. I heard endless lectures from Mom later on that it was no way to treat house guests but ... we never could get the stink out of the sheets, so the lectures were mild. To this day I can still remember the stench and obsess about smells.

I generally have issue with MIL anytime she stays for more than a day or two. But one visit during my 2nd pregnancy definitely took the cake.

DS #1 was born at 29w so we were being cautious with pregnancy #2. A couple of times I was put on 'potato rest' - not quite bed rest (mainly because I had a 1.5 year old) but to be a couch potato as much as possible. So DH invites his mom down thinking she'll help with DS at the very least.

I get up one day to fix a sandwich for myself for lunch. I'm telling MIL what we have that she could fix for herself when she says, "Oh, just fix me whatever you're having!"

I was flabbergasted. If I hadn't told the docs there was no way I could do true bed rest I would have had to be IN bed...instead I'm waiting on my MIL.

Yes... I've had a problem house guest and she's really no longer welcome in my home or invited to family gatherings that take place in my home.

This woman obviously does not know about simple etiquette.

#1 - You ask the homeowner if they can turn on the heat because it's chilly. You do not help yourself to the thermostat.

#2 - You stay within the main areas of the house that everyone is gathered in. You do not go into homeowner's bedroom to see what's in the drawers.

#3 - If you wander in the office because it's in an open area does not mean you are allowed to open the bills sitting on the desk and study them. Unless, of course, you plan to pay them. Then by all means please look to your heart's content.

#4 - If you are not watching your children because you are too busy snooping and they ruin the new coffee table, then you are expected to replace it.

#5 - I invited you to my house to celebrate an occasion of sorts, not to talk badly about the family that isn't present.

I could go on... but those are my sticking points.

Do you know what you started? I just came here to party!

OMG! I feel so sorry for all of you but, I can top you all. When I was 16 my dad's side of the family came to visit us for my brothers wedding. I gave up my room and stayed with my soon to be SIL. My boy cousins 3 of them took my room and SET IT ON FIRE! YES FIRE! We lost 3 rooms in the house and a lot of damage in my parents room. My dad had to get hotels for everyone because his family could not pay for it. The little brats never said a word untill the fire dept. said it was arson and started in my room. The yougest (9) of the 3 said the older (17 and 18) two were smoking. My mothers gown for the wedding was in her room and could not be cleaned in time so she had to buy a new one. Thank god I had my stuff for the wedding with me. All of the men were gone to pick up thier clothes from the tux shop so they were in good shape. We moved back into our house six months later with not even a phone call to say sorry.
Now that we are all grown up it is a joke to them, they say stuff like remember we burned your house down HAHA! IT'S STILL NOT FUNNY!
The wedding was great and my brother and sil are still married with 2 girls and bought the house we grew up in. My parents moved into a little condo and all is well.

Oh wow, boy do I feel like I had it easy. I know how it feels (well, not the arson part.) My house burned down in the middle of the night when I was in 6th grade. My parents were running in and out trying to get all seven kids out of the house!

I hope everyone got out safe. I guess I should be happy my family was safe. I would not have been sad if one of the little brats would have got a burned butt...lol OH I forgot to tell you that one of the boys is a fire fighter in Atlanta Ga. now. :shrug7:
