Default Has anyone ever worried about this?

I've seen tons of posts, where members are asking for advice, dealing with a friend or relative. And, believe me..right now, I'd love to get some advice about an issue that's bugging me about someone I know.

But...I'm so worried that they'll stumble upon this site, and read it!!! I mean..let's face it...anyone who knows me, knows I'm totally into coupons...and that I'm a HUGE Xavier fan! It's not like I'm hiding who I am!

OK...just wondering.

Well do they use coupons too? Or even shown an interest in how to do it? If not I would say you are safe. Trust me, I have friends who do things and I don't even know what to do. Example: Getting cell phones with a 2-yr contract without full time jobs. I could start tons of rants believe me!!! LOL

Yep, I've thought of that and I think it's a valid concern. I have heard stories of friendships gone sour over someone stumbling upon a friend's posts about them. Some situations you might be able to make vague enough that it wouldn't be clear who or what you are talking about, but some things are obvious (to people close to you) even if you leave out names and specifics.

I worry about it! I've thought twice about what to post. I tell all sorts of people about this site - family, clients, strangers - and wouldn't always want them to know what I was posting. More so 'cause I've posted personal stuff than anything else!! Posting here can be like talking to that stranger on a plane. In some ways you're more likely to tell them stuff than your friends! Because they have no place in your life, there's no worries about it getting back and impacting your life in some way.

And, at the same time, once you put it out into "webspace", there's no getting it back! It's out there for any one who cares to go looking for it. Not to sound too paranoid but look what's happened with Myspace pages getting people into trouble! It's a valid concern.

I've had DH scold me about posting about his sister, but I never post anything I wouldn't say to her face, lol.

I can see where it could be sensitive though. Perhaps you could type up the post and have a friend here at HCW post it instead? I mean you wouldn't really get to add much more info without their help again, but you could easily watch and contribute to the discussion as an outside-party-who-is-not-really-outside....

Yes, I have definitely thought about it since I have suggested this site to friends, relatives and strangers. I really don't think too many of them actually come here. But, anybody could be lurking out there. So I try to watch the outlaw comments. Maybe you could discuss it in chat or in a social group. Someplace that is a little less visible and less traveled. In chat, it wouldn't be kept out there in posterity for someone to stumble across later. The social groups, I think they are just not used as often but they would leave more of a paper trail than the chat.

I used to have a secret blog with no information that could be attributed back to me. So, I would post anonymously and get things off my chest. I haven't used it in over a year because things just got better...well actually I just felt better about the situation after I let it all out. Sometimes you just need to vent or hear the response from somebody who has no vested interest in the situation. That makes it easier to either get over it or do whatever you have to do.

Feel free to pm me if you need an ear. I'm sure there are tons of people here who would listen via pm and keep it on the down low.

Nice to see that I'm not the only one who worries about it. I mean, let's face it... I talk about this site to everyone I know! And I've mentioned that some of the posts aren't really about coupons...that we vent to (and about!!) each other. So...if anyone was curious about what I chat about, it would be pretty easy to find out! So, for someone who's non-confrontational, like me...it's probably best that I don't spill my guts out here! LOL!

I agree with PP that you could have a friend here at HCW post it for you... or after typing it up on your PC, you may see some easy changes you could make that would eliminate someone you know recognizing the situation. For example, you may be able to post it as something a close friend confided in you, or if it was something public, as something you overheard or witnessed at a store or a friend's house or the park...

HTH! :)
