    Default WIC question

Wasn't sure where to post so if in wrong place please move and i apologize.

Since when was PB removed from WIC ? I was told PB is no longer accepted on WIC. She told me it was removed since March of last year. What a bummer because i really could have used the PB. We just signed back up last week. Now i will be having to give my beans away because we don't need 2-3 bags of beans a month.

.......i was always under the impression that you got your CHOICE of whether you wanted beans OR peanutbutter.........my friend is on wic for her son, and gets peanut butter, when my kids were on wic, they had peanut butter, frankensiens ex has his son on wic and gets peanut butter-----idaho is at least still giving peanut butter if you choose....could it be just regional? i know that the cereals and juices differ in different states

In Indiana it's not been removed that I am aware of. But I was asked if I wanted more milk and we needed more milk(was feeding 10 people here) so I lost my pb. But the sticker is still next to the price stickers here.

thats interesting that they gave you more milk instead of peanut butter---when i was nursing my son, i drank SO much milk that i was given the option to trade my cheese for milk---but not the peanut butter for milk (i was getting 8 gallons of milk a month on wic---and still buying 6-8 gallons of milk a month just for me)

Were you told this from the store or WIC office?

If this is true ask if something else like cheese can be increased.

I know that they can do this, I had 4 kids on wic at one time and was getting way to much milk and they gave me more cheese instead.

WIC also hands out a booklet which gives a detailed description of what is available.

I was told that Peanut Butter was removed because they were trying to cut costs, and Peanut Butter was too expensive. I guess it depends on what area you live in???

I just looked to see where you lived. Nebraska right.

Peanut Butter is on there list.

WIC is a Federal program so I think it is the same in every state.

I still get PB here. I "think" your child has to be 2 to get the PB though. You get beans from 1-2 years old then you can choose PB. I am not sure where I pulled this from but I swear I read it somewhere. I could have dreamed it though lol!!

I have the new WIC card and love it over the vouchers! It's much quicker and the cashiers don't have to write anyhing!

My niece gets WIC and i've been getting them filled, since she was a baby. She has never gotten peanut butter, even though it's on the WIC approved food list that they include in the folder. She has also never gotten tuna fish or carrots, which are also on the list.

I think the cheese is the weirdest thing. They require the least expensive cheese. But, if you get sliced, it has to not be individually wrapped. How crazy is that? That's usually THE MOST EXPENSIVE cheese in the store. It's usually very close to the price of the Kraft Deli Deluxe cheese that Wal-mart allows. Way better than the store brand versions other stores require, which are not as good as the Kraft.
