The National Do Not Call Registry gives you a choice about whether to receive telemarketing calls at home. Most telemarketers should not call your number once it has been on the registry for 31 days. If they do, you can file a complaint at this Website. You can register your home or mobile phone for free. Your registration will be effective for five years.

The three credit reporting bureaus also offer the option to opt out of mail for promotional purposes through their web sites. I make sure that I am registered every time I get my free annual credit report.

I got our number on the Do Not Call list, and the number of telemarketing calls dropped to almost zero. Totally worth being on the list!

It's unbelievable how many calls we get...dish network, replacement windows, etc... hopefully this will help cut down on those. Thanks again MrsP for posting this

thank you! i've been meaning to register our new number since we moved ~ the number of calls has been un-friggin-believable. even dish network has been calling us (and sending us "sign-up" mail) weekly since July with an automated message.... and we already had their service! igits!

If you are doing business with them they can still call as much as they want. The best way to deal with them is to call them and tell them that if you receive one more recorded message you will cancel your service. I bet that will get it to stop.

i don't think the donotcall list works anymore..i had it when i lived in my apt and the calls did not stop. Im in my house now (just bought it) and that raised even more calls and snailmail from all kinds of places..and many have the wrong name on record..the others don't even know how to pronounce my last name..which lets me know who they are..once i hear my last name being mispronounced i hang up.
Right now i have my phone on two rings then it goes to a message telling the telemarkets to shutup! and anybody else please leave a message :)

I have at least 20calls a hour from area codes i don't even know..i want to change my number but my hubbie says that won't even stop them..and we only got our number a few months ago!

Oh gosh lifeskills13, that's horrible! My father signed up for this a couple of years ago, and it still works. My last name can be somewhat hard to pronounce too, so whenever I hear someone pronounce it wrong and with talking in the background (like telemarketer talking), I just hang up.
