Help me Brainstorm!

My 16 yo son has been nominated and accepted to be a student ambassador to China. It's not going to be cheap.

People to People Student Ambassador Programs

What ideas do you have for fundraising? Can you think of a great slogan to use on signs and collection containers?

There are 2 kids form our school, Blake and Becca.

TIA for your wonderful input!

Can you get local businesses to donate prizes to raffle or auction? Services usually sell well - a day of house cleaning (from a maid service), getting your taxes done for free (an accountant). Also meals, either in your home or at the restaurant are always good. There is a place that helps you make dinners that you freeze - maybe they could donate a week's worth of dinners?

As far as a slogan, maybe something in both English and then in Chinese? Pick a Chinese character that represents a student, or studying, or peace - then when people ask you what it means, it will be an opportunity to tell them about the program.

When you go to these places to ask, print out some of the info from the website so they can read about the program. I had never heard of it until today but it sounds like a great opportunity for your son - good luck!

Congratulations to your son!

You could have your son write a few letters to community organizations; Kiwanis, Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, American Legion, etc. In the letter explain; who, what, why, when and where. He should explain how this trip will help the local community and what he plans to do when he returns, for example he could talk to local groups about his experience.

This worked for me when I was in high school for a similar program; it was over ten years ago, but I raised close to $2500.
