CHAT CVS Rumors: All Rumor Posts Belong Here

    Please post all rumors here.

What does Cuz consider a rumor? Anything a manager, SS, cashier, your neighbor, or your pet bunny tells you about CVS changes coming.

If you're the first person to post it then it's definitely a rumor. If you're the 50th person then it may be fact.

Default Anyone heard anymore about the rumored end of the monthly deals

I remember someone saying that CVS was thinking of doing away with the monthly deals in '08. Anyone heard anything?

Haven't heard any rumors, but it wouldn't come as a total surprise to me because I serious believe that a LOT of companies will be tightening their belts by mid-2008 due to the economic slowdown thats on its way thanks to the global credit crisis.

Seriously..... I strongly advise everyone to use these good times to strengthen their family's safety net. Get out of debt as much as possible, be in cash, and stockpile useful things as much as possible. Don't know whether we're heading for a soft landing or a hard one but I am quite certain that we're seeing a far greater inflation in commodities than the gov't is officially reporting and we're seeing economic activity slowing.... stagflation at present... with the likely outcome being asset deflation and recession on the horizon.

Say it ain't so! I just got started on Black Friday week and I'm addicted. I need my monthly deals. If this happens I can see I won't be going in there as much. I have to drive 27 miles as it is. I need the monthly deals to make it worthwhile for me.

Different versions of this rumor appear all the time. If it's not the monthly deals, it's the ECBs, it's that CVS won't accept more than 1 coupon per item......it always changes. If it does, so be it. We'll find something to do. I've been doing this since summer of 06, and they've strengthened the rules/limits a bit--but overall still good deals.

If anything, I'd see them tightening the restrictions on CRTs--that's where they lose money on us.

I thought in the beginning they said it was a test thing that would only run through December, and then, depending on how successful the program is,they may or may not continue it.
    Or was I dreaming???

That is what I read which begs another question. How long have monthly deals been around?

Companies may be tightening their belts in 2008 but they still need to advertise and to promote their products.

If ECBs are an effective and cost efficient tool, then I do not see a cutback.

I don't know about the rest of you, but as far as the monthly deals--they are poorly advertised in my stores. The items never have signs (I have to bring my book or I'd never know what's on sale) and they are never on a special display or anything. Case in point--the oasis and that energy drink. Both were basically hidden in the store, and a less-motivated shopper would have given up. I have only found 3 Huggies wash so far, they're always out. So if they're not making the sales that they want on those items--is it because of the monthly deals, or is it because of poor ordering, poor mgmt or poor signage?
