HELP CVS - ECB/limit questions + scenario (revision post #4)

I have a scenario for items I want to buy this week but am unsure if i have it right with regards to how to get and/or use EBC'S.

Could you just clarify a few things for me, pretty please?

    1. if i buy more than 1 item that has EBC, will i get EBC's on all or just one item? (I want to buy 3 stride but my scenario won't work if I don't get EBC's on all 3).

    2. Can i use the EBC's straight away or do i have to go back on a different visit?

    3. How do I use them? Do I tell them I want to use them or do they automatically get used up?

    4. Do I have to spend more than the amount of EBC's I have in order to be able to use them?

    Here is a scenario:

    1ST TRANSACTION:

Stride gum is 99c (with card) and give 99 cents EBC's (making them free)

    I have -$1 on 3 so I'll pay $1.98 OOP and get $2.97 back in EBC'S.

    2ND TRANSACTION:

Revlon nail polish is $4.99 and gives $4.00 back in EBC's

I have -$1/1 so that is $3.99 but I want to use the $2.97 i'll have in EBC's from the gum (can I do this?) and pay $1.03 OOP with $4.00 EBC's then left from this transaction.

    3RD TRANSACTION:

Purex is $1.98 but I have -$1 so makes it 0.98
Puffs are 0.98 but I have -0.50 making them 0.48
Suave is $1 but I have -0.75/1 and I want 4 of these (and have 4 coupons) making each one 0.25 - can I buy 4 or not?

Total of purex, puffs and suave deodorant is $2.46 and I want to use my ECB's to pay. This will leave me with approx 1 ECB.

This would mean I pay $3.01 (plus tax) OOP for everything listed.

    Would this work?

Thank you for your patience with all my questions - I hope I posted in the right place!

    1. if i buy more than 1 item that has EBC, will i get EBC's on all or just one item? (I want to buy 3 stride but my scenario won't work if I don't get EBC's on all 3). The limit on the Stride Gum is 1, so you will only get (1) .99 ECB back.

    2. Can i use the EBC's straight away or do i have to go back on a different visit? Yes, you can use them right away.

    3. How do I use them? Do I tell them I want to use them or do they automatically get used up? The ECBs are on your receipt. You will need to tear them off and hand them over to the cashier.

    4. Do I have to spend more than the amount of EBC's I have in order to be able to use them? You should b/c you don't get the difference back. Say your subtotal is $4.25 and you want to use a $5 ECB, you would loose the .75 cents, so its best to add something to your order to bring it to $5. But if your subtotal is $7.97 and you want to an $8 ECB, the cashier can adjust it down to $7.97. ECBs don't cover tax, so you would be responsible for that (unless you live in an area where you are not charged tax!)

    Here is a scenario:

    1ST TRANSACTION:

Stride gum is 99c (with card) and give 99 cents EBC's (making them free)

    I have -$1 on 3 so I'll pay $1.98 OOP and get $2.97 back in EBC'S.
Like I replied above, you would only get a .99 ECB back for this deal. Which will affect the rest of your transactions.

Yes, you can use the Stride ECB, but b/c the ecb will be .99, will change your total.

Yes, you can buy 4.

Total of purex, puffs and suave deodorant is $2.46 and I want to use my ECB's to pay. This will leave me with approx 1 ECB. <-- you have to use the whole $4 ECB as you don't get ECB back for the difference..

This would mean I pay $3.01 (plus tax) OOP for everything listed.

    Would this work?

Thank you for your patience with all my questions - I hope I posted in the right place!

OK, thank you! I have a different scenario where I buy the Revlon first so I can work with that and don't need to buy the gum so that's awesome :)

Thanks for the super-fast lightning speed reply!! I may even have a 3rd scenario by the days end cause with gum that's almost $5 OOP but if I forgo it and start with revlon i'm only a tiny bit more OOP ($4 or so) :)

Im certain there is a better deal to be had here this week though...

I saw that the Revlon nail polish was limited to 6 - does this in theory then mean I could buy one, pay, use the ECB's to buy another one and get more ECB's and then buy another one for more ECB's etc...until I reach 6? Is there a limit on the amount of coupons I could use on those in a day or how many times in 1 day I can get the item and use the ECB's? I have a few -$1 coupons so I could, in theory, get several for free if that worked.

Anyway. Aside from that, I revised my scenario:

    Revlon nail:

    = $4.99
    - $1.00 Q
    = $3.99 OOP

    + $4.00 ECB's

(Repeat for each nail enamel up to limit 6, if this is right, and not stupid - if it won't work, then I'll stick with 1 nail enamel and move to step two).

    Puffs:
    = 0.98c
    - 0.50c Q
    = 0.48c

    Purex:
    = $1.98
    - $1.00 Q
    = 0.98c oop

    Suave:
    4 at $1.00 each
    = $4.00
    (4x0.75 in coupons)
    - $3.00
    = $1.00 oop

Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ Sauce (at the request of DH):
2 for $3.00 in store with card
    - $1.00 Q
    = $2.00 oop

    OOP = $4.46 total
    Minus $4.00 EBC's
    = 0.46c OOP

Total out of pocket for the two transactions is going to be $4.45 and I should get:

1 Nail polish (or more depending on that possibility, I do need clarification for that)
    1 box Puffs
    1 Purex
    4 Suave deodorants
2 Sweet baby ray's BBQ sauce

Can anyone see a flaw in this or does it sound good?

You can buy the Revlon in separate transactions or you can get them all in one transaction and receive a $24 ecb. However, it's a little harder to spend the bigger ecb so might want to be careful with that. Might be best to split it into 2 transactions. :)

I don't want to spend that much OOP.

Could I, in theory, do this:

Buy 1 Revlon at 3.99 after the -$1 coupon. Get the $4 EBC's.

THEN, use those $4.00 EBC's to buy ANOTHER Revlon nail polish at $3.99 (after coupon) making it FREE? Would I still get the EBC's for it if I buy it with EBC's?

THEN, use THOSE $4.00 EBC's to buy ANOTHER Revlon nail polish, etc, until I reach the limit!? Is there a limit on how many transactions I can make in a day or anything?

I know it sounds lengthy, but I could get 6 nail polishes (apparent store limit) for just $4.00 OOP doing it one by one then using the EBC's on the last one to complete the transaction on the other items I need...

I would then be only $4.45 OOP for 6 Nail varnish, 4 suave, 1 purex, 1 puffs, 2 BBQ sauce...

Yes, you can. Its called "rolling" your ECBs. No, there's not limit on the # of transactions you can do a day. But if I have to do that many back to back, and someone comes up behind me, I let them go between them.

    Good Luck!

Oh that is exciting! I think i'll double check in store for the # of nail enamel's allowed before I do it, then go for it! I just found a $2 off 1 coupon too, making my TOTAL OOP $3.45 not $4.45! I can't go until Friday so I am itching for this one...

I will let you know how it goes!! :) xx
