QUESTION New procedure for CVS RX and gift card?

I had a $25 gift card CRT that I used last night for my husbands prescription. The pharmacist said there was a new procedure where she had to punch something in from the actual RX. If it went through, ok, if not, then I wouldn't get the gift card.

I didn't ask, but it appeared like they are tying the RX to the card in some way. Before, I would use the CRT I got from my card, my daughter's or my mom on any RX.

Has anyone seen or heard anything about this?

Yes, they have always done that. Mine are always code 4000 - which just means I am private insurance. If they type in the government code, then you wouldn't be eligible for the GC.

Tried to use one once and was turned down by CVS as I have government employees insurance through my retirement. Was quite ticked off since I pay so much for our health insurance and co-pays each year and it should be considered private since it is not medicare or medicaid, but United HC, BCBS, Medco etc. Even though I do not usually use a gc, I will never again use CVS for my RXs after they were so rude and had embarrassed me!

Pinksink, did you ever price any of your scripts? Some are just a cheep without using your insurance. If you pay cash you can use the GC coupon? Just an idea.

I can confirm this is what my pharmacist said last night. I dropped off a new RX and had a rx coupon for $25 gift card. The tech said I was not eligible b/c my rx had no co-pay. The pharmacist came over and said, no, that I could get the gift card b/c when she put in a "number" from the rx it went through. She said if it was a government based insurance or medicare then they won't allow the gift card. So it is not the card but the insurance plan.

hmmm, I've never heard of this happening, maybe it's a new policy? My mom works for the post office, so is covered under through blue cross insurance that is specifically for federeal workerswhich sounds similar to what you have, and was able to get the gift card. This was at the end of september, however, so maybe things have changed since then?
