Default Using a money card

Today when I swiped my money card to pay, the cashier received a prompt that required her to enter a number from the back of my card before the register would complete the transaction.

I told her that this was the first time I've had this happen and she said it started a few weeks ago.

Does anyone know the reason for this new requirement?

I have had this with gift cards, too, and my cashier had no idea why they started it.

Now the gift cards I can't explain. But debit/credit cards pertain to what I just posted.

they probably got an email, telling them to do it on credit cards, and figured all plastic is credit!

A money card transacts the same way as a credit card.

I'm not sure why they would input the CCV though to track anything. Sounds more like a verification step.

They started this on Sunday at my stores. Since a $25GC can last me quite a while, I just memorized the 4 digits to save time.

I noticed this too and its kind of annoying and I asked a few cashiers about this and none of them knew why. But a couple days ago a cashier told me it was because alot of people were using money cards to buy alcohol/tobacco and this step was to deter that or at least make the cashier more aware of the form of payment. He ever pointed to a sign that said money cards cannot be used on alcohol/tobacco. HTH
