QUESTION cvs---Help with meaning of one coupon per purchase

I have tried to locate the answer to this question elsewhere in HCW with no luck. Went to CVS and wanted to purchase two Dawn Plus Hand Renewal that were on sale for .99 each. Gave two .50 coupons. The young cashier gave one coupon back to me and because the fine print said 'limit one coupon per purchase'. Can someone clarify for me why I couldn't use both coupons since I was buying 2 items? and if anyone knows where I should look for these definitions? Thank you in advance.

It said one coupon per purchase on the coupon? I would assume that it means you can't use 2 coupons together on 1 item. Like it wouldn't allow you to use a store coupon along with the mfg. coupon. But then how would that work if you were using the mfg. coupon and an ecb?
hmmm... now I am a little confused.

I dunno. Personally I would have told her then to take one of the Dawn's off and pay for it in a separate transaction.

Glad I'm not the only one confused. The clerk was a young guy that I had not seen before and he scrutinized the fine print on every coupon. I told him to take back one Dawn. If I misunderstood the fine print I would like to know. Does purchase mean in the same transaction? as in one per trip?

Cashiers aren't taught what the difference between a purchase and a transaction. I didn't realize there was a difference till I started reading these forums. She thought that the coupon meant you could only use it once, but the correct thing to do would've been to accept it.

& at CVS you can combine store coupons and manufacturer's coupons for the same item, just 1 of each per item.

1 coupon per purchase means 1 coupon per item purchased (ie: 2 Dawns = 2 coupons)

1 coupon per transaction means 2 Dawns = 1 coupon...so you would do separate transactions (ring 1 dawn, use 1 coupon, pay then ring 1 Dawn, use 1 coupon, pay).

Each item is a purchase, all purchases equal transaction. If you bought 15 dawns at once, you made 15 purchases in 1 transaction.

Clear as mud?

i like to lay one bottle down, and say- "i want to purchase this", and lay the coupon next to it-" using this coupon," ...... and "i want to purchase THIS bottle, using THIS coupon"- and lay the second one down next to THAT bottle, and so on.

then i beam at the cashier, and say- "if that's too much trouble, you are most welcome to do several transactions, since i plan to purchase 5 of them.....and i have all afternoon."

"if it would be more convenient to you to ring up all the bottles i PURCHASE in just one order, that's fine , too."

then i wait.

sometimes they choose the hard way, and sometimes they choose the easy way.

You would think with the economy the way it is that they would want to sell their product instead of dusting it on their shelves! lol
