News CVS Rumor About Stocking Food Items

I had a hard time getting the Nabisco Ritz this week. They had (2) of the smaller 4 oz. size and (1) of the 9 oz. size (Buy $10/Get $3 EB). The only size they did have several of was the only one that was not on sale. I asked one of the cashiers what was going on (I shop at a Longs converstion) and she told me that they were going to discontinue carrying Nabisco brand as well as many of the national brands (thus the low stock). Most items will be replaced with CVS's Gold Emblem brand. This is a bummer since there are no insert Qs for Gold Emblem products.

    Is this old news?

I asked if they would consider price adjusting the 16 oz. boxes of Ritz (from $3.99 to $2) and force printing the EB and she said, "No problem." Hey, if you don't ask, the answer is already "no".

there's a lot of planograms that are being re-done, snacks is one of them. i havent seen any ritz clearance tags but i wouldn't be surprised to learn that they're being discontinued, considering 1) they dont sell and 2) the ecb's sale going on right now.

just an fyi, you prooobably don't want to try cvs brand food items. heard nothin but bad things about those!

We like the CVS crackers- wheat and cheese. My DH and DD actually prefer them to name brands like Wheat Thins or Cheez-Its. The apple juice is also fine. I don't care for their cookies or animal crackers though.

Walmart is doing the same thing, taking out national brands and replacing with their store brand. It's got to be cut backs due to the economy. The chain, say CVS, has to pay Nabisco a higher price for crackers than they do to make Gold Emblem in house.

I'm seeing more and more store brands on sale and more and more push from store brands everywhere. I hate it. If I want generic I can buy it but don't give me no option!

There was an article in the Houston Chronicle about this exact thing. Grocery stores are really doing this. I'm having a hard time finding some brand names in Kroger anymore.

stores make a higher % of profitt on their own named items so that is why they are trying to push their own items.... however, what that means is the name brands will work harder to get us to buy their brands,,, ie more deals.... I am a brand loyal customer... as for kroger, i think there brand cheese taste like rubber.... give me my kraft!

I was able to buy a case of boxed mashed potatoes at CVS for $.37/ea. (normally $1.49). I guess they're not going to carry the Idaho brand any more. They also have some pretty decent pretzels on clearance for $.55. I bought a box to try them before stockpiling a few more boxes.

I happened to be at my mom's and she had some of those Gold Emblem cheese puffs- I tried some and I couldn't stop eating them they were sooooo good. I usually don't care for cheese puffs at all.
    I love bargain shopping!
